Maybe Season Three of The IT Crowd carried the burden of high expectations (at least as far as I was concerned) . Seasons One and Two were hilarious and, judged by those pre-set standards, I couldn’t befriend feeling that Season Three came out of the gate a puny sluggishly. Was creator-writer Graham Linehan (of “Father Ted” fame) coasting fair a petite?

The first four episodes – From Hell, Are We Not Men?, Tramps like Us, and Speech – all succeed on their beget terms and have plenty of laughs. But I’ve near to put a question to more from Roy, Moss and Jen. Distinct, I like the scheme each episode introduces a variety of disparate elements and then uses them all to grand humorous conclude. For example, when Roy gives a homeless guy 50p but criticizes his hard-luck sage in episode three, we know that’s a sentiment that will reach encourage to haunt him. As soon as Roy and Moss bluff their map into the hearts of some “accurate men” in episode two, we know there’s disaster in store. And it’s comical to look Jen catch her employee of the month award so seriously – even putting an Oprah quote on her office door – in episode four. Through the demolish of episode four, most of this season’s surprises near from Douglas Reynholm (Matt Berry), the boorish boss who is forced to wear “electric sex pants” as share of a harassment settlement and gets to date a post-op transsexual, too.
The season reclaims past heights with episodes five and six – Friendface and Calendar Geeks. The intro to the Friendface episode, with its takedown of social networking sites (”don’t deem about germs…”), is uproarious. The episode pokes fun at all aspects of the social networking phenomenon in ways spacious and cramped, while staying legal to its nerdy roots and its specific character quirks (for example Moss is mildly disgusted to be told his newly friended mom’s “fresh mood”) . Episode six starts with Roy finagling his scheme into the photography assignment for a nude charity calendar – only to witness the assignment morph into something that could haunt him for life.

If you enjoyed Seasons One and Two of The IT Crowd, you won’t want to miss Season Three.
If you’re current to the reveal and want to sample a 22-minute burst, then launch with Friendface and reboot from there.
This is one of those amazingly laughable shows that obtain me laugh like crazy. It is definitely in my top 5 list!
While some episodes are funnier than others, each episode has at least one really ample laugh in it. The type of stuff that you utilize the next few days giggling about whenever you remember the scene. I honest really worship it.
Hopefully, they will manufacture a fourth season, since I already miss it.
Enjoy!

Sequels old to be about remaking the same film again and again (remember “Friday The 13th” or “Nightmare on Elm Street”? ) with minor variations so the audience gets their fix. John Carpenter, Kurt Russell and Debra Hill inverted the paradigmn reprising the best elements from “Hurry from Recent York” while introducing a heavy dose of satire aimed squarely at the Fair Majority and groups of that nature. While not as memorable as that film, “Elope from L. A.” takes perfect aim at liberal Hollywood, the conservative religious factual, sequels and skewers them all lifeless on most of the time.

Snake Plissken is serve in misfortune. Captured again he’s set aside into the service of national security against his will. It seems a method that can detonate orbital nuclear devices has been stolen by the President’s daughter and delivered into the hands of a self styled rebel leader named Cuervo Jones (George Corraface) in what’s left of Southern California. Cuervo plans on using this way against the United States. Plissken is sent to the island of Los Angeles to retreive the draw. Yes, folks the Sizable ONE finally hit and a gigantic section of the Los Angeles basin dropped into the ocean like a ten ton weight while the remainder floats off the flit of the United States making the perfect set to deport people who don’t have high correct fiber or generally tick off the President for life (Cliff Robertson in a crooked performance) . Infected by a deadly designer virus that makes Ebola seem like the flu, Snake has no choice but to lift the job of retrieving. Malloy (Stacy Keach stepping in for the behind Lee Van Cleef) and Brazen (the pleasing Michelle Forbes slow of “Star Trek: The Next Generation”, “Homicide: Life on the Streets” and the second season of “24″) provide Snake with his only link to the outside world.
Along the contrivance Snake meets surfers (Peter Fonda), the Surgeon General of Beverly Hills (Bruce Campbell in a hilarious role that truly is the highlight of the movie) in pursuit of the scheme. Oh and once again Snake has one of those colossal digital watches attached to his wrist to remind him his days are numbered if he doesn’t bag the map relieve in time. Filled with big cameos by Steve Buscemi (as Way to the Stars Eddie), B-movie queen Pam Grier (as Hershe Las Palmas), Italian beauty Valerie Golino, the behind Paul Bartel, Issac Hayes (in a cameo) and Robert Carradine “Flee from L.A.” objective might be Carpenter’s most undervalued film (along with the grand satire “They Live”) .

The weakest link in the film turns out to be the uneven visual effects done by Disney’s Buena Vista Visual Effects. Some of the opticals inspect tall particularly the scenes where Los Angeles gets hit by the 9.6 earthquake. The sequences moving the mini-sub and some of the helicopters explore as if they were taken from computer games. While computer graphics were level-headed developing at the time, I’m surprised that Disney’s effects house wasn’t able to reach up with more convincing visuals for this sequence. Detached, while they aren’t what they could be they’re not the focus of the epic either and are a attractive minor pickle. Many of the best effects work quite well. The production create by Lawrence G. Paull (”Blade Runner”, “Attend to the Future”, “Predator 2″) gives the film a mighty bigger watch than the budget the film had (it cost roughly $50 million to execute including the marketing share of the budget) . A bit of trivia about the film. Russell appears wearing the same costume he had for the first film at the beginning. Russell also made all the basketball shots seen in the climatic game himself.
Presented in its new widescreen format with a trailer as the only extra, this was released when Paramount was playing win up in releasing product for the DVD market. The image quality is exceptionally friendly with big color reproduction and a nearly flawless print (particularly when compared to the remastered re-release of “Speed from Modern York”) with a nice 5.1 sound mix.
It’s too unpleasant this hasn’t been reissued with extras (such as a commentary from Carpenter and Russell and one or two featurettes. Heck, there’s got to be a promo part somewhere in Paramount’s vault about this as I seem to remember one being released to promote it) because, while isn’t quite up to “Hasten from Unusual York”, “Speed from L.A.” is level-headed a memorable sequel with enough satire, parody and humor laced moments to hold fans of the current delighted. Hopefully one of these days this minor Carpenter classic will earn the re-evaluation it deserves.
When I first saw this film in the theaters, I really didn’t like it. In fact, I was elegant let down! I had grown up with Elope From Unique York, and to my scare, John Carpenter remade his believe film! I’m not kidding, REMADE it. Honest down to Snake getting shot in the leg and limping for the last half of the film. Years later I revaluated my notion. You can’t acquire a film as corny as this on accident, especially if you’re a outmoded director like John Carpenter; It had to be done on purpose. I’ve read numerous interviews over the years and have found out two things, and I believe these two things are the reason this film ended up the arrangement it did. First, John Carpenter hates sequels. He never wanted to get sequels to his films. He never wanted a sequel to Halloween(let alone six! That’s why he produced Halloween 3 which people hated so distinguished, coz he was trying to buy this series in a different direction and not retread the whole Michael Myers thing) . I also understand that both Carpenter and Kurt Russell were under alot of studio pressure to earn this film. I don’t know what kind of favor Carpenter owed the studio, but he made this film. And my theory is that he made this film intentionally terrible to say to the studio, “There, I made the stinking sequel you wanted, don’t ask me to do it again!” I mean really, if he had wanted to earn a sequel to Speed From Recent York, don’t you reflect he would have struck while the iron was hot and made it at the height of the first film’s success instead of waiting 15 years? Reflect about it. When I judge this scenario, I can search for Race From L.A and have a well-behaved laugh thinking that John Carpenter may have played a astronomical joke on the Hollywood studios. Really, there’s no scheme Carpenter included that surfing scene with the plot of it being taken seriously. The film is fair design too overblown, intention too cheesy and obviously a carbon copy of the recent to be anything other than a joke. Kurt may be older now, but he’s actually smooth able to play Snake Plissken like it’s 1980. The performance is enormous, it’s honest the film surrounding Kurt that’s amusing. Try watching it again and examine what you reflect.

Watch A Christmas Carol Movie Online.
Movie Title: A Christmas Carol A Christmas Carol is available for streaming or downloading. |
Christmas honest isn’t Christmas unless you stare at least one version of A Christmas Carol, and this is by far my approved. George C. Scott gives one of the greatest performances I have ever seen an actor give; he truly becomes Ebenezer Scrooge to the fullest degree possible. Scott can say more with fair the slightest hint of a facial movement than many actors can say during the course of an entire movie. All of the performers here are suitable, bringing to life adored characters such as Bob Cratchit, Dinky Tim, and Scrooge’s nephew Fred. All four spirits are worthy, none more so than Scrooge’s extinct partner Jacob Marley; having Marley’s jaw fall after untying the burial cloth holding his mouth closed is an critical aspect of the yarn and certainly does originate an impression on the viewer. This is objective one example of the moviemakers’ faithfulness to Charles Dickens’ current story; another would be the inclusion of the two downhearted children, Ignorance and Want, beneath the robes of the Ghost of Christmas Point To.
This timeless epic works extremely well on its fill, but the unsurpassed acting skills of Scott acquire it almost more than sincere. The change wrought in him during the course of the night, as he changes from a man of crass materialism and unkindness to a repentant soul pleading for a chance to change his ways, is powerfully presented and really touches the viewer emotionally. The simple happiness revealed in the lives of Bob Cratchit and others are as heart-warming as the forgotten mistakes and anguish of a younger Scrooge are agonizing. If there is any heart out there that is not touched by the goodness and courage of Dinky Tim, I don’t even want to know about it. No matter how many times you view this movie, it proves itself righteous of bringing a sprint to your survey, a lump in your throat, and ultimately the very spirit of lawful holiday cheer and Christian charity that Dickens intended it to grunt.
I cannot say I have seen every adaptation of A Christmas Carol, but I really cannot beget any other version could exceed the quality and emotional impact of this one. No matter how many times I read the myth or peruse the movie, it remains a source of eternal joy to me. This is more than a movie for me; it is an primary and critical fraction of each and every Christmas holiday season.
George C. Scott makes an outstanding Scrooge in this 1984 TV production of the Christmas classic. The anecdote is once again told of a miser, depressed and alone. He shuns Christmas and helping others, only doing things that will increase his personal wealth. But then one fateful Christmas Eve, he’s visited by four spirits who try to expose him another scheme. Will it be enough to redeem him?

I cherish this record, usually enjoying it in a couple forms over the course of December. This particular film version is my popular. Probably helps that I’ve watched it almost every year since it came out. The acting is edifying, especially from Scott. The costumes, scenery, and effects are improbable as well, and they stick very cessation to the modern narrative. Honest watching a few minutes, I fetch… in and want to witness the whole thing all over again.
This DVD is the perfect map to glance the film. The narrate and sound are remarkably determined for an almost 20 year archaic made for TV film. Definitely better then my frail recorded from TV tape. The film is presented in its recent ratio – chunky frame. While it would have been nice to have an extra or two, the quality of the movie makes up for this absence in my view.
If you’re looking for a film version of this classic account for the holidays, glance no further. This movie is determined to become a tradition in your family.

If I could come by something novel to say about Star Amble, that would be a feat in itself. Let it suffice to say that it’s the most successful TV sci-fi franchise of all time, was a pioneering present in many respects, and is unbiased darned involving to survey, whether you’re a “factual believer” or not.
Season One of the Unique Series is a gargantuan area to originate for newbies and fanatics alike. We are introduced to the Romulans, Klingons, Khan, Starfleet, the Federation of Planets, and the whole crew short of Chekov, who appears in Season Two. We are presented with 29 episodes, at least 6 of which are absolute masterpieces, and another 10 of which are really, really estimable. In this package, you’ll rep classics such as “The City on The Edge of Forever,” “Where No Man Has Gone Before,” “Balance of Fright,” “The Menagerie,” “The Devil In The Murky,” and “Situation Seed.” Overall, it’s the Unique Series’ strongest season, and it only has two right clunkers in the group (”Shore Leave” and “The Galileo Seven”) .

There’s really not a whole lot to be faulted in this season. It’s an absolutely rock solid item for any Trekkie, and indeed any sci-fi fan, to have.
The Blu-Ray:
So the demand becomes, how is the presentation?
Well, it should be said accurate off the bat that the HD transfers of these shows are absolutely shapely. Detail is through the roof, making every smile line, button and dial, star, and ship detail honest pop true off the shroud. Dim levels are rock solid, especially in dwelling scenes. Color saturation is deeper than deep, and colorful colors are exquisite in a intention that the previous DVDs unbiased can’t replicate. The prove is presented in its new 4:3 aspect ratio – thank goodness CBS/Paramount didn’t try to stretch these shows in a manner similar to many “HD” rebroadcasts of older shows on cable.
The Unique Series was shot on 35 mm film stock, which has more detail than any 480i TV broadcast can determine (or 480p DVD for that matter) . Thus, it is truly benefited by a high definition transfer. This isn’t a release where you leer at it and say “well, it looks blooming righteous for what it is.” In fact, it has unprejudiced as great lovely detail and the same edifying color as the newest shows currently broadcast on TV in HD. And it really does blow away the previous DVDs, too. There are, of course, a few shots here and there that betray their age. This is objective the nature of the beast when dealing with 40 year passe celluloid elements. But all told, a fine 90% of the shots are competitive with unique HD. So as far as a video rating goes, this is 5 star material all the map.
Audio is a tad problematic. Some of the sound balancing seems to be a bit off – dialogue can have a tough time keeping up with music and sound effects. It’s perfectly definite, don’t secure me disagreeable. But I found myself fiddling with the volume controls more than I’d like throughout an episode. On the other hand, the audio in general is grand. The re-recorded theme song is breathtaking – especially when the Enterprise “wooosh-es” by from the front speakers to the rear surrounds. Red Alert klaxons and atmospheric sounds generally are mixed towards the surround channels. It’s very wintry.
Special effects sequences have been redone with recent CGI and in high definition. For the most section they inspect huge, and it is quite refreshing in the era of the “Lucas-ing” (or is it Abrams-ifying? ) of old-fashioned material that the producers of the original effects went to such mountainous lengths to respect the current obtain sparkling of the 1960’s material. I will say I kind of wish they had done fresh model work, as CG peaceful objective isn’t to the point where it looks “genuine” (setting aside the fact that this is inherently unreal stuff being filmed…) . But I understand that it would never have been done in that case, since it costs so distinguished more these days to do model work as opposed to CGI. On balance, having unusual effects is distinguished more sterling than poor.
But the kicker, and the reason it would be no sizable deal even if one hated the unique effects, is the fact that the current effects are on the same disc. You can peek an entire point to with the archaic or recent effects, or, if you’d recall to irritate your friends and important others, switch between them in sincere time with the “angle” button on your remote. Are you paying attention, George Lucas? This is what we want in a Star Wars Blu-Ray! The sparkling recent with the respected musty, side-by-side. Grand kudos go to CBS/Paramount and the Creep team for the job they’ve done here.
Also included are several extra features. Mini-documentaries, mostly reprised from the previous DVD spot, are included one on each disc. The “pop-up” text commentary from the DVD has been retained as “Starfleet Access,” a combination video-text commentary. The videos are nice, but they talk over the audio from the episode, whereas the older text commentary did not interfere with the audio. I wish both could have been included. Unique features include a mini-doc on the HD restoration and effects, and a situation of “home movies” from an extra on the Toddle space. Especially wintry is an interactive “tour” of the unique series Enterprise, showing many nooks and crannies not often seen or discussed, on the same splendid HD CGI model that the original shots exercise. All in all, a healthy plot of extras.
The packaging is nowhere come as unpleasant as some previous DVD Traipse seasons, but it quiet has its issues. Why can we not be presented with episode titles on each disc? The discs are honest blank silver paint, with loads of empty dwelling that satisfactory titles could have occupied. Instead, the episodes are listed on the INSIDE of the Blu-Ray insert, and are covered by both the filler material in the front, and by a disc in assist. Being required to pop out a disc to survey the contents of three more is really not convenient.
*****
The audio niggles and the packaging stupidity might be enough to beget some downgrade this to a four star rating. I am swayed however, by the wonderful HD clarity of the video, and the amazing options for old-fashioned and original special effects. The other things are minor issues in the draw of things. This is a tremendously helpful presentation of an absolutely seminal television expose and science fiction saga. The respect with which the “restoration” was handled is truly commendable.
Any Trekkie/Trekker who has a Blu-Ray player should maintain this residence. It’s fair that simple. If you are fair a general sci-fi fan, you also should give this serious consideration.
I am probably one of the few that actually possess it. I am a reviewer and have an early copy. It looks and sounds heavenly. Each of the 7 Blu-ray discs are dual-layered (47+ Gig) and each episode takes up between 7.5 – 12 Gig of region. I’ve compared cloak grabs to the primitive 2000 DVDs on the DVDBeaver website and anyone can plainly glance the astonishing superiority. The image is delicate and the 7.1 sound is over 4000 kpbs. These are even better transfers than the HD-DVDs.
I give a very strong recommendation. Broad value in my idea.

Here’s a movie for dog lovers, the elderly, children of divorce, FOBs (Friends of Birds), frail Boy Scouts, people yearning for adventure, and anyone who has ever loved… and lost. Up is for everyone. It made me laugh out loud, and it made me sob.
Buy,Download, Or Stream Up! Click Here
I understanding it would be tough for Up to match the emotional power of Wall-E. The two Pixar films are similar in their lack of dialogue in the first act, which helps deepen the emotional impact. Up begins with Carl, a terrified young boy star-struck by a famed explorer; and kookie Ellie, who has a similar obsession. The two kids become rapid friends, and shriek to one day recede to Venezuela’s Paradise Falls. After getting married, they assume their dream home and fix it up, hoping to have it with children. Carl and Ellie’s life together from childhood through feeble age is depicted, silently, with delicacy and subtlety. The first 15 minutes is like a celebration of a overjoyed marriage, and you truly feel Carl’s afflict when he is left alone. He sits slumped in his chair, talking to the house as if it is the missing Ellie.
When developers finish in on Carl’s beloved home, he decides to fulfill his promise to Ellie and go to Paradise Falls. A old balloon vendor, Carl lifts his home with hundreds of smart balloons. Stowing away on the porch is Russell, a bulky, mettlesome kid trying to glean a scouting badge.

After landing in Paradise Falls, the mature man and the puny boy are joined by a golden retriever named Dug who can talk with his collar, and a substantial rare bird that bonds with Russell (he names her “Kevin”) . Dug is priceless: spot-on for every dog that ever lived, including an obsession with squirrels. Through a series of halt calls and adventures, the quartet vanquishes a villain, saving the day. And Russell earns his scouting badge.
In the process, Carl learns to let go of his dismal mourning for Ellie, and live life again. When this happens, a truly magical thing happens. Before, Carl’s craggy face is gray and monochromatic. At the moment of his transformation, Carl’s face is awash in color, and he is surrounded by attractive hues. It reminded me of The Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy steps out of her gray world and into a candy-colored Munchkinland. Carl, too, enters a whole modern world.
Up is a deeply emotional film, chunky of truth. It’s the year’s best film. Pick Up another triumph for Pixar.
Someday, Pixar is going to do it — they’re going to obtain an emotionally uninspiring, lackluster bright movie. But in the meantime, they’re unexcited putting out toothsome fascinating movies like “Up,” which defies the usual kid-movie conventions by starring a crotchety musty man. It’s a charming, fun microscopic adventure narrative with flying dogs and balloon-powered houses, but underlying it is a bittersweet limited legend about loss and cherish.
As a child, the timorous Carl Fredricksen bonded with the oddball Ellie over their shared treasure of adventure, the explorer Charles Muntz, and Paradise Falls. They later married, recede into their “clubhouse” together, and lived a long, sadly childless life together. When Ellie died, she had never fulfilled her dream of going to Paradise Falls.
Now crotchety, alone and harassed by a loyal estate developer, Carl (Ed Asner) is finally ordered to a retirement home. But he isn’t going quietly — instead he attaches thousands of balloons to his house and floats it away toward South America. But he accidentally takes an keen, naive Wilderness Explorer (a thinly-veiled Boy Scout) named Russell (Jordan Nagai) along for the poke. Unpleasant kid was impartial trying to procure an “assisting the elderly” badge.
And the jungle bolt to Paradise Falls turns out to have some surprising obstacles: a gargantuan emulike bird that Russell names Kevin, a talking dog named Dug (”I am jumping on you, bird!”), and a mysterious conventional man who lives deep in the heart of the jungle. Turns out the used guy is very familiar to Carl — and to seize Kevin, he’s willing to sacrifice Carl and Russell.
Industry experts were babbling about how “Up” wouldn’t be as well-liked as the previous Pixar movies, because the protagonist is basically a crusty traditional coot. Well, shows what they know. It ended up becoming one of those classic movies that somehow appeals to all ages — while the humor and action appeal to children, adults can enjoy Carl’s savor for his lost wife, and his uninteresting realization that he’s clinging to the past.
In fact, the first ten minutes are some of the most heart-tugging, quietly bittersweet scenes I’ve seen in a long time. Without a word, they present all the ups and downs of a realistic marriage — joys, sorrows (Ellie’s inability to have children), growing dilapidated together, and finally loss.
But it’s not a depressing movie by any stretch — in fact, it’s like a childhood fantasy reach to life, complete with a floating house suspended on hundreds of balloons, and biplanes piloted by a talking dog army.. Plenty of titanic dialogue (”Do you want to play a game? It’s called Leer Who Can Go the Longest Without Saying Anything.” “Icy! My mom loves that game!”) and an action-packed climax in an musty airship.
Ed Asner is absolutely perfect as ubergrouch Carl — crotchety, grumpy, and obvious to fulfill his wife’s lifelong dream, but gradually realizing he’s clinging to the past. Nagai is equally perfect as Carl’s polar opposite: a naive, chattery Scout who is obvious to reunite Kevin with her baby chicks. And the utterly adorable Dug and the other dogs deserve special gape. These creatures are utterly hilarious — they talk (”I hid under your porch because I adore you”) and act the plot dogs would if they talked. Three words: cone of shame.
The two-disc edition is going to have some very nice extras, but once again people with regular-def DVDs are going to earn shafted because the Blu-ray edition will have a bunch of queer stuff. Grr. As for this one, there’s a digital copy, the director’s audio commentary, kinda-alternate-ending “The Many Endings of Muntz,” and the documentary “Adventure Is Out There” about the research for this movie.
There are also a pair of adorable bright shorts. “Partly Cloudy” has a much-abused stork having to yell potentially corrupt baby creatures from a kind but clueless cloud. And “Dug’s Special Mission” is a sort of backstory for the adorable Dug, explaining what the heck he was doing before he met up with Carl and Russell.
“Up” continues Pixar’s running tally of gloriously appealing, emotionally layered movies that the entire family can like. With that, I have only one more thing to say… SQUIRREL!

Movie Title: Objective Burma Objective Burma is available for streaming or downloading. |
Finally–the substantial Errol Flynn is becoming available on DVD. One can only hope that Warner Bros. will be releasing more classic Flynn titles in the come future. Except for tedious in his career, when Errol’s excessive lifestyle took its toll, we are looking at one of the most inviting stars to ever grace the “silver hide”.
As other reviews will issue you, this is a truly memorable World War II drama about American soldiers successfully accomplishing a perilous mission against the Japanese in the jungles of Burma, only to face the daunting task of returning to home inappropriate alive. The film is spicy, touching, sunless and uplifting–and if ever there was an actor that men might follow even through the gates of hell, it is Errol Flynn. I agree that this is one of his best performances. At first, we salvage the renowned Flynn bravado, but as the tale progresses, we scrutinize more desperate human qualities and ultimately a world-weary resignation. The scene where he discovers that one of his men has been tortured to death does not really expose the victim–it doesn’t have to–the dismay and disbelief on Flynn’s face says it all.
The film is long–but even when there is no action taking station, the combination of suspense and sharply-drawn characters keeps a firm grip on your attention. You can feel that oppressive heat–the dense jungle–the biting insects–and the constant threat of a ruthless enemy. In many ways the atmosphere foreshadows another unpleasant war for Americans, in another Asian jungle, some twenty years later.

The DVD is excellent–the report is very determined and stable for a 58-year primitive film.
I know that this movie was vilified in the UK for ignoring the vast role played by British troops in this theatre of the war. I don’t pass historical judgments–I simply review the film. As such, “Fair Burma” is a considerable statement, and an qualified vehicle for a truly astronomical star.
Raoul Walsh directed this gruelling, gritty, compelling war record, produced during World War Two, as the fight in the Pacific was smooth in beefy swing. Errol Flynn, in one of his least glamorous roles, stars as a hard-bitten Captain in charge of an American paratrooper unit that gets sent on a commando mission into Japanese-occupied Burma. They easily execute their goal of destroying a strategic radar post, but are decimated while trying to return from enemy territory. The film is remorselessly well paced, tense, and manages to transcend the conventions of Hollywood’s WWII combat melodramas: it is propagandistic and uses determined formulas, but it is also earthy and anxiety-provoking in a intention that the grade-B war films of the era were not. The spot of the soldiers — stranded leisurely enemy lines and crop off from their serve — is made visceral in a plot which few movies manage to tell, making this film a distinct precursor to “Platoon” and “Sunless Hawk Down.” It’s bleak tone and realistic portrayal of the foot soldiers, with their shaded humor and fatalistic decide, all rings just. Highly recommended.

It’s getting a release…but not a suited release. More than 8 minutes have been gash from the beginning of the film (according to dvdverdict) . This isn’t the result of residence conversion. They were slice. No explanation. Please send a message to the hacks at Lionsgate and refrain from purchasing this travesty. What a expansive film being so sorely treated. You would believe the idiotic cloak art would be sufficient insult to Huston’s final masterpiece.
Do not prefer this video if you do not savor movies made with delicacy and wistful dismal — it is short, has no accurate station and features no special effects. Yet this movie stands as one of the best ever — it weaves a spell over you, and captivates your every sense. We are treated to the visual trimmings of a holiday feast, along with the Irish folk music that will, fair when you least inquire it, turn your expectations upside down. The curious characterizations of every player in this movie bring it to colorful life; it’s as if you have entered a Christmas card, and can taste, smell and feel everything around you. That James Joyce’s myth revolves essentially around a simple, but devastating revelation, is what makes it shimmering. So many times in this movie the positive gives procedure to more specific visions: as one of the many, many luminous ladies speaks at her party, we are brought inside a bedroom, where we linger with the camera on objects — report frames, combs, etc., that spark the imagination and underscore the proceedings with a singluar clarity. Angelica Huston is magically compelling, and the final monologue, delivered with subtle power, will haunt your memory.

My children greatly enjoyed Episode Three in the ongoing saga of Ice Age and indeed it is probably the best so far, being comical and clever and very tight. There is plenty of visual humor, verbal humor, and situational humor and very small is over-played (though the birthing scene comes discontinuance to being working the joke too noteworthy) . So the movie itself is a sizable addition to the family’s DVD or BluRay collection. But this particular DVD double-pack is a shameless confidence trick. The ScratPack disc is utterly without merit. There are no current lively sequences and most of it is tiresome in the uncouth. It looks as if it took someone eight minutes to compile, though that might be exaggerating the worry and opinion that went into it. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to consume this double-pack; honest go for the movie alone.
Understand where I am coming from. In the past we’d find a DVD for about $15 when the dvd was released. In that DVD (even past Ice Age dvds) we’d win special features. Not anymore. Now you pick up a DVD with only the movie on it for $15 (remind anyone of VHS? ), but if you want the Special Features you got to use $8 more for that. To top it off, it’s not like they don’t have room for the special features on the Movie DVD. They give us another container…twice as worthy storage is required of the buyers. The Marketing Wizs at Dream Works then package this as the Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs Scrat Pack and vow you that you acquire extra. YOU DON’T Fetch EXTRA. YOU Salvage NOTHING SPECIAL. INSTEAD YOU Catch ROBBED. While I’d like the features on the Scrat Pack, I am not spending $8 more to pick up my special features. I’m boycotting and others should boycott this also. I bet if you contemplate on the Scrat Pack there is about 30 minutes of material. What a rip off.

I am surprised by all the complaints I peep from other reviewers. We bought this in a two-pack with the Miss Spider DVD, because our 4-year-old had enjoyed the Miss Spider TV shows. After watching both of these “movies,” he did not want to study Miss Spider — but he requested the Stellaluna DVD over and over.

We then got the book from the library, and renewed it for a while because it became a well-liked. We also deduced that he might have gotten a glimpse at the book at preschool before we ever heard of it. In any case, our son was perfectly pleased with both the book and the DVD versions, and did not have problems with the fact that there were differences between them.
The overall narrative is the same, but the telling is different — as it HAS to be, to acquire a video more than 10 minutes long. That point was proven by the PBS demonstrate “Reading Rainbow” which featured the book one day. A professional narrator read the book out loud, and they customary its illustrations for the visuals. And it runs about 10 minutes at MOST. The rest of the 25-minute reveal is filled with related material about bats and so on.

Well, in this DVD version, they’ve added a rather amusing “super-hero” jumping spider character, who provides a couple of pivotal dwelling points. They also added a couple of birds who attempt a makeover on Stellaluna, which fails but teaches everybody a lesson about getting in touch with the person you are inside. That is, of course, the thought of the book but this simply accentuates it with some singing and some fun. These scenes seem to disappear greatly from the tone of the recent book — but they do NOT disappear from its message. Our child enjoys them, but more importantly, I feel they encourage the Stellaluna character beget a clearer sense of her acquire value.
The rest of the DVD completes the storyline with an ending that one would interrogate from a “movie” even if it’s not exactly the same as the book. It’s a glad ending, it leaves the birds and the bats with greater mutual thought and respect, and — again — emphasizes the importance of looking beneath the surface to bag to know somebody.
The DVD has extra features, including a detailed examination of bat physiology and living habits, an explanation of the differences between American bats and the African fruitbats featured in the myth (something that really DOES need emphasis for an American audience, in my notion), and the chance for kids to gawk what loyal bats behold like, compared to the cartoon versions in the book or the DVD.
In summary: this version is huge and should be viewed and enjoyed without fretting over its relation to the book. Guaranteed: KIDS will not care nearly as considerable about the differences as parents do. I mean, let’s face it — your child is going to see/read/hear 5 or 10 versions of Mother Goose Rhymes by the time they go to school, as objective one example. Our child has read them in several books, then seen video versions done by the Barney TV explain, “Busytown” by Richard Scarry, and more. And it is a tremendous growing experience, a learning experience, when a child sees the same memoir interpreted more than one plan.
I mediate it’s a mammoth mistake for parents to obtain hung up on the impossible goal of trying to dictate the “factual” version of every anecdote for their kids. Let them stare different ones, and settle FOR THEMSELVES which ones appeal to them more. Our child continued to seek information from the book long after seeing two different TV versions, including this one. They can coexist objective dazzling, so give your kids some credit and some leeway, and don’t deem things for diverging from your expectations. Being that judgmental of superficial issues runs contrary to the lesson of the book, after all!
It tells the same myth as the book, impartial in a different style, that’s all. On its gain, or in conjunction with the book, it’s a splendid DVD, and a perfectly acceptable addition to your home video library. We found it to be a first-rate surprise, and a grand deal.
My 4 year weak was introduced to Stellaluna the book through her preschool class. They ended the series on Stellaluna by showing the video. My daughter loved it so distinguished that she asked to borrow it from the classroom. I am so cheerful to learn that the video is now available to catch! The video stresses that differences are ok and the music is very upbeat and fun! I higly reccomend this movie from preschool-early elementary age. My 6 year faded going into 1st grade enjoys the movie as well. A friendly, wholesome choice that you will treasure as worthy as your child!
