I deem myself well schooled in shameful budget schlock from various film genres. Watching cheesy films is an acquired taste, one not easily cultivated overnight. Even with some knowledge about who makes these types of films under my belt, I tranquil stumble over major contributors to the clunker movie catalogue and wonder why I haven’t spent time with these delicacies before now. Roger Corman is my latest discovery. I admit I have heard of Corman before in reference to the spate of Vincent Sign dismay classics that emerged in the 1960s, along with a few other films he made over the course of his career, but until now I never saw many of them. This guy is a giant of the gross budget film, producing or directing some 500 plus movies in the last forty years. He’s smooth going strong as far as I know, and never limits his output to one particular genre; he’s made westerns, apprehension, action, drama, and science fiction films with seeming ease. Moreover, according to the bio on this DVD, Corman helped start the careers of numerous Hollywood bigwigs. If “Tall Awful Mama” is any indication, I will continue to use a lot of time with this filmmaker’s projects in the advance future.

“Expansive Unpleasant Mama” is a sort of feminist reinterpretation of those movies about Depression era highway outlaws; it’s “Bonny and Clyde” with lipstick and long tresses. Angie Dickinson plays Wilma McClatchie, a mule headed, dirt dreadful Texas woman with a temper and a desire to better her conditions. Life hasn’t been easy for Wilma, not with two young daughters to raise in a ramshackle cabin out in the sticks. What’s a woman to do during these tough times? Why, strike up a relationship with local bootlegger Barney (Marvelous Willingham), of course! But when the wedding ceremony of one of Wilma’s daughters goes horribly awry, and Barney perishes in a shootout, Wilma is left holding several dreadful bags. The Feds interested in bringing down Barney, led by Bonney (Richard Smith), now situation their sights on Wilma and her kids. Unfortunately, McClatchie plays correct into their hands by taking over Barney’s illicit liquor operation. At some point, Wilma decides she’s had enough of being abominable and decides to hit the road in search of ill-gotten gains. She takes her two lascivious daughters, Polly (Robbie Lee) and Billy Jean (Susan Sennett), along for the hurry. And why not? If you’re going to embark on a crime spree, you may as well do it a family affair.

Problem is, Wilma cannot flee the lure of sleazy, agreeable for nothing men. She first hooks up with wanted criminal Fred Diller (Tom Skerritt), and snappy consummates their partnership the veteran fashioned diagram. Then conman extraordinaire William Baxter (William Shatner) enters the relate, and Wilma brings him into the fold as well. The resulting jealousy between Diller and Baxter, along with a most unique relationship struck up between Diller and Wilma’s daughters, will certainly lead to perilous tensions within the gang. Despite these internal stresses, Wilma continues to space the next titanic bag. The gang finally stumbles upon the perfect scheme; they will infiltrate a soiree thrown by a bunch of rich folks and kidnap one of them. McClatchie and her compatriots succeed in abducting Jane Kingston (Joan Prather), but the understanding fouls up when Diller decides to regain up cessation and personal with the hapless heiress. Then Baxter pulls a expeditiously one. Then the cops and the G-men conclude in. Cue gunfire and crashing cars. Roll credits. Who will live and who will perish? Surprisingly, you’ll actually care about the reply to that expect while watching “Enormous Poor Mama.”

I’ve seen several Corman classics now, and “Tremendous Poor Mama” ranks as one of the better ones. First, you’ve got a solid cast filling all the main roles. Dickinson not only looks fabulous, but she believably portrays a bad woman looking out for her occupy with nothing to lose. Tom Skerritt, an actor I’ve never liked in anything, actually manages to avoid annoying me as the murderous and jealous Fred Diller. As for Shatner, well, he’s probably at his most restrained here in a role requiring him to talk softly in oily tones. I got a kick out of the daughters. Both of them are so far over the top that you can’t back but laugh at their antics. Be certain and hold an peer commence for their dancing routine at the local veteran’s win together. Is anyone as dense as these two airheads? Guess so. Thankfully, the performances unfold against the second essential element that makes “Sizable Unpleasant Mama” a lot of fun, namely the film’s substantial atmosphere. While I imagine plenty of anachronisms plague the movie, I conception the 1930s props looked map better than I expected to glance in a vulgar budget record. Finally, you really do glean an opportunity to behold Angie Dickinson seize a few risks, so to declare, but you’ll miss it if you blink. Considering what the actress had to do in the role, I’m surprised she took the piece when she was smooth a player in Hollywood.

The DVD is standard a standard Roger Corman release. You win the obligatory short interview with Leonard Maltin, and a bunch of trailers. A sequel to “Vast Awful Mama,” unoriginally entitled “Gargantuan Abominable Mama II,” came out roughly ten years later. While I haven’t seen the sequel, which apparently once again stars Angie Dickinson, I can say that the first film is a lot of fun. Tall performances, bountiful skin, a sleazy attitude, and wonderfully realistic atmosphere makes this Corman classic a must examine for B movie fans.

Big business can execute for outlandish bedfellows as is the case here, with the recently re-released film Tremendous Terrible Mama (1974) . Seems not too long ago The Walt Disney Corporation, through their Buena Vista Home Entertainment group, acquired the rights to release onto DVD some 400 Roger Corman films, including this one…if you’re not familiar with Roger Corman, he probably the single, largest producer of low-budget exploitation films in the last 50 years, features someone generally wouldn’t associate with the Walt Disney image. Produced by Corman, co-written by William W. Norton (White Lightning, I Dismember Mama) and Frances Doel (Deathsport, DinoCroc), and directed by Steve Carver (Lone Wolf McQuade), the film stars Angie Dickinson, who first made an impression on me as Sgt. Suzanne “Pepper” Anderson in the mid to gradual 1970s television series “Police Woman”. Also appearing is William `The Shat’ Shatner (”Star Mosey”, Kingdom of the Spiders), Tom Skerritt (MASH, Alien), Susan Sennett (The Candy Snatchers), Robbie Lee (Switchblade Sisters), Sterling Willingham (The Last Record Point To), Dick Miller (X: The Man with the X-Ray Eyes), Tom Signorelli (The Cotton Club), Royal Dano (Killer Klowns from Outer Dwelling), William O’Connell (Every Which Contrivance But Loose), and Joan Prather, whom some may remember from the television series “Eight Is Enough”, as Janet McArthur Bradford.

The movie, location in the depression era south, begins as we contemplate three women, one older, two younger, heading to church. Seems modern widower Wilma McClatchie (Dickinson) is taking her two daughters, Billy Jean (Sennett) and Polly (Lee) to the church as Polly done got herself engaged to a dirt farmer. The trio arrives, met by skeezy Uncle Barney (Willingham), a bootlegger by trade, shortly followed by the groom, showing up on the encourage of a truck…I must say, he’s quite the prize pig…anyway, Wilma seems sad with her youngest daughter’s choice in men, and promptly puts the kibosh on the affair in the middle of the nuptials, as she decides she wants better for her girls. A trustworthy, ragged fashioned ruckus ensues, and the three women, along with Uncle Barney, slip…fair into a trap plot by a lawman named Bonney (Miller), who’s been chasing Barney the bootlegger for some time. There’s a car lunge, and Barney ends up with a terminal case of lead poisoning, to which Wilma decides to buy over the business, thus beginning her life of crime. After the bottom falls out of her moonshine business (thanks to a imperfect local sheriff), Wilma and her girls, who are about as ripe as Georgia peaches, fleece a bent preacher, and then secure tangled up with a bank robbery, eventually taking on one of the robbers, named Fred Diller (Skerritt), as a partner, in more ways than one, if you know what I mean…homina, homina…Wilma, deciding it wise never to pull the same caper more than once, decides their next win will be a run track, where they meet Captain Kirk…er, I mean William J. Baxter (Shatner), an upper-class hustler, resulting in another partnership, along with more of Ms. Dickenson doffing her clothes…position phasers on graceful! Anyhoo, the group makes their intention west, to California, with Sheriff Bonney hot on their heels, and Wilma comes up with one last colossal acquire, inspiring kidnapping a lovely, yet snooty, heiress (Prather) and ransoming her off for a million bucks…but jealousies threaten to ride the group apart, along with their ever increasing notoriety.

I’ve seen plenty of exploitation films in my time, but few do them as well as Roger Corman. That’s not to say his touch is always gold, but he usually manages to finagle more than most of out so very runt. I mediate the one aspect about this production that elevates it to the upper echelons within the B movie realm is the strong and well-behaved cast, especially Ms. Dickenson, who, in her forties at the time, looked better than the females half her age appearing in this film, and that’s not to say they were hard on the eyes (the actress playing Polly seemed to have the most difficult time keeping her top on) . She provided an exceptionally strong, smart, definite female character, one who knew what she wanted, and knew how to collect it…overall I really enjoyed this gangster drama with a feminine twist. Director Carver keeps legend lively along well, which included predictable twists, challenging car traipse and gunplay sequences, along with a whole lot of freaky deaky…check out the scenes where Tom Skerritt’s character, after getting replaced as Wilma’s bed warmer by The Shat’s character, hooks up with her daughters, in a creepy. Southern fried threesome. And then there’s the scene approach the slay when Skerrit’s character is seduced by the kidnapped heiress (in an attempt by her to flee), and The Shat creepily watches on from the doorway…but never apprehension, The Shat does derive his groove on in one, particularly revealing scene with Ms. Dickenson…thankfully, for myself at least, his nekkidness is covered up by her nekidness (actually, Ms. Dickenson has about three or four gratuitous nekkid scenes, if you’re looking for that kind of thing) . As far as the acting goes, its better than I expected, given the amount of experience in the cast, both in recognizable actors and character actors. And how could you not like a script that features lines like this? “Uncle Barney…was you trying to feel up my Mama? ” Oh Uncle Barney…whotta sleaze…the legend is decent enough, as there seemed to be attempts to flesh out the various relationships, but it never really went to far which was kindly because that really wasn’t something I was looking for in a movie like this…another aspect I really liked was the ending, as I understanding it a tall procedure to wrap things up.

The fullscreen (1.33:1) narrate on this DVD release looks decent, but does display some signs of age. I’m betting the quality here is the same as the previous DVD release, so if you absorb that, and that’s all you care about, there probably isn’t remarkable reason to be sucked in by this `Special Edition’ release. The Dolby Digital 2.0 audio is decent enough, with no complaints. As far as extras, there is a featurette titled `Mama Knows Best: A Retrospective’ (14:38), that includes Corman, Dickenson, The Shat, and a number of people fervent with the film discussing their experiences, all looking quite outmoded and crusty. Also included is a commentary track with Corman and Dickenson, and a rough, fresh theatrical trailer.

Cookieman108

By the intention, the film apparently did well enough to warrant a sequel titled Gigantic Terrible Mama II (1987), featuring Ms. Dickenson. I haven’t seen it, and doubt I will as the DVD, which is currently out of print, seems to be a bit over priced…treasure them gougers…maybe Disney will re-release it, too…

Season 2 of CYE is arriving in June! Here’s hoping HBO keeps the sets coming more frequently than they’ve done with Oz. Season 2 ranks up there and has some priceless moments including the doll episode! I would like to seek more bonus features on the CYE discs…maybe outtakes or the ultimate understanding…the cast roasting Larry!

I rated this four stars relative to the series as a whole; in relation to every other comedy currently on the air, it really warrants the elephantine five stars. In short, I have to agree with other reviewers who feel Season Two is probably the weakest in the “Curb Your Enthusiasm” series. Quiet, this is worth the heed of admission for the “Doll Head” episode alone, maybe the funniest 30 minutes ever aired in television history, even if the rest isn’t quite up to the usual Larry David standards. And while I’m not generally a fan of DVD extras, shelling out 35 bucks for a no-frills five-hour’s worth of viewing seemed a tad inflated compared to similar DVD sets on the market (really, all the HBO series DVD’s are over-priced) .

It was smooth worth it in the kill, as nothing makes me laugh harder than watching this dreadful shlub swear his blueprint through ridiculous situations of his enjoy making. Priceless moments this season include an uncomfortably realistic bit with Jason Alexander suffering the slings and arrows of post-Seinfeld Costanza-typecasting; Ed Asner’s hysterical turn as a gruff and horny faded geezer on his last legs; and a timorous Larry encountering his shrink sporting a package-revealing thong at the beach — not to even mention the nightmarish water bottle incident in the “Doll Head” episode.

This is “Curb Your Enthusiasm” undergoing growing anxiety, unsuccessful in fully re-capturing the spontaneous greatness of Season One and not yet on the reliably right legs that will later hallmark its prime. While the writing and guest spots improve markedly in subsequent years, this series is smooth superb to everything being served up by the networks, even in its weakest hour.

Again Frank Sinatra gives another delicate performance (he has always been underrated as an actor in my view) and he even directed this film! This is an bright W.W.II film location on an island in the Pacific where little bands of both American and Japanese forces are stranded. This film examines the human sacrifices made in war and questions if there is justification for those sacrifices examined through the camaraderie and reminisces of fellow combatants on both sides. Sinatra, as director, gives Clint Walker a chance to explain his acting abilities in a gorgeous dramatic performance. The stalwart cast also includes Tatsuya Mihashi, Tommy Sands, Tony Bill, Brad Dexter,Takeshi Kato and Sammy Jackson. Listen for an early net still by John (Johnny) Williams. I always liked this one.

Gus Van Sant has always been an wonderful if somewhat eclectic director. Although I have enjoyed his previous efforts, I was somewhat troubled when I heard he was undertaking a film biography of Harvey Milk. A pleased figure of this importance, I notion, should be handled by someone a tiny more mainstream. Like many ecstatic people, I am weary of gay-themed films that near no one beyond a cheerful audience, and the message I would want to emerge from a film about Harvey Milk should be heard by everyone.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Milk! Click Here

As if reading my mind, Mr. Van Sant has fashioned a film that is accessible to all, while approaching his subject with bright focus and a singleness of purpose that is at once definitive and topical. A shapely achievement, MILK manages to compose its point without ever being preachy or trite, while remaining as factual to the facts as any film bio could ever hope to be.

The film opens with snippets of cheerful history that many young happy people, let alone a straight audience, may be alarmed to stare. During the opening credits, a barrage of vintage film clips remind us that a scant 50 years ago, gratified men, lesbians and transsexuals were subjected to violence, harassment, physical abuse, arrest and humiliation by the very people that most citizens watch to for protection; i.e. the police and judicial authorities. The newsreel images of joyful bar raids that begin MILK project a surreal yet somehow eerily familiar atmosphere that seems to alternate between the bizarre and the barbaric. Many people today are not aware that, in the 1940’s and 1950’s, just here in the USA, joyful people were arrested for simply patronizing a joyful bar (newspaper headline: “Den of Perverts Busted”) . Many of those arrested had their names and employers published in the morning paper (!), and often found themselves unemployed and unemployable, branded with the imprint of “deviate”. It is this chilling fact of social injustice that clears the plot for the film’s swing into a very principal share of blissful history.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Milk! Click Here

Skillfully telling us the yarn of Milk’s rise as a leader in the Castro Blissful Community of San Francisco, Harvey Milk is seen throughout the film as a living, breathing flesh and blood person. Van Sant adroitly propels Sean Penn through a warts-and-all portrayal of a old human being with an idealistic hooked and a politician’s savvy. As with any agreeable film, it is difficult, if not impossible, to discern which is more impressive – the balance of a perfect cast and lovingly detailed direction weave their design through a seamless portrait of an valuable historical figure, yet we are somberly reminded that many people remember Harvey Milk solely for the “Twinkie” defense of his star-crossed killer. The raze result is that happy audiences emerge from seeing this film with a sense of pride and purpose, while straight audiences leave with a better knowledge of who we (blissful people) are, what we want, and what we are struggling for. By word of mouth I expected a thrilling cinematic experience; what I got was a surprisingly near-perfect motion report and some of the best acting I’ve ever seen. I heartily recommend MILK to any straight person who wants to find a choose on what the last 30 years of overjoyed history were really all about, and any tickled person who wants to feel ample about themselves. MILK is a triumph. Explore it.

Allow me to agree with at least one other reviewer that everyone should behold this, especially those who judge being ecstatic is so far out of the mainstream that, as my father in law once said, “The Lord allowed AIDS to happen.”

Harvey Milk. A man of whom I know exiguous. I lived on the other side of the world when he died, in a city in which it was not recent to accelerate into eunuchs. I’d heard of him since, in reference to gayness, but never associated any importance to him. Then I saw that Sean Penn was playing Milk, so I told my spouse that we need to survey it.

Milk, it seemed, lived a fine used lifestyle, working for an insurance company in Modern York. According to the script, anyway, in 1970 he met a flame and they headed to the west flee. Despite local resistance, they status up shop in the Castro district of San Francisco (after “The Haight” had become riddled with crime, homelessness and the like) . Milk then decided it was time to salvage politically active.

In this allotment of the film, I plan for a while that I was going to suffer from motion sickness. The camera seemed to go quite snappy, and gash from the scene they were shooting to a historical scene, and attend. But I adjusted. And Milk lost the first election, then the second, then the third. That, occupy it or not, didn’t consume too worthy time for the film to accumulate across, except that Milk’s lover, Scott (played by James Franco) left after he said he couldn’t lift another one. That’s when the action started (!)

I’m not cheerful, and have never been terribly sympathetic to many of the contented causes. At least I never payed remarkable attention to ‘em. Yeah, I heard cross statements like I quoted above, but I honest disregarded them. After this film, my spouse felt guilty that she didn’t know considerable about the Milk case. I pointed out that she wasn’t exposed to it distinguished. Even to this day many of the satisfied “causes” aren’t seen as so mainstream. They’re seen as somewhat fringe. Some alleged “contented eccentricities” may have added to that exclusion, and I maintain the film included that element. Indeed, that’s why Harvey Milk decided to go to Orange County, CA, without his elated supporters, and debate Spot Senator Briggs, played by Dennis O’Hare, the proponent of Proposition 6, a overjoyed rights provision to which gays were opposed, on his enjoy terms. And it paid off! The proposition was defeated!

Throughout the film, Milk was reciting a testament into his tape recorder, to be played only if he were assasinated. I wish I knew whether Milk really did that or whether it was added to the film for “do.” Either method, it was the adhesive that kept the film together.

The historical clips also added to the film’s credibility, especially those of Anita Bryant. After Bryant’s success in some anti-gay initiatives around the country, Milk decided to bring her causes to the attention of the people of California, and that’s where the Proposition 6 movement began.

There’s so remarkable I could say about the film. I don’t want to mask anything of the execute case, as I’ll give too great away. The acting was definitely Oscar material, especially for Sean Penn. The script and music were award-winning. But the reason I endorse it–especially for those most opposed to pleased rights–is that it shows that those rights are no less constitutional or mainstream than the rights of blacks, women, or any other groups which have had to labor hard for the last 230 years!

Whether the film was timed to arrive out–no pun intended–after California’s Proposition 8, I don’t know. But it’s well timed in terms of trying to educate people as to why those factual should be guaranteed.

Today we have people like Keith Olbermann to editorialize on those who opposed Proposition 8. We can thank God for Harvey Milk, the “first openly elated” person in politics in the US, for having opened to doors for those contemporay editorials.

It’s also, by the diagram, a testament to the cause of political activism in general; most activists score themselves in a rut deeper than that of Milk and his associates. This film may remind them to persist!

See this gem, and form certain those challenged by elated rights look it. Discuss it with them. Someday then we will be able to proclaim that “all men are created equal.”

paul reubens character was one of the greatest comedic events of our time.. From the early variety prove, to the playhouse, to the tremendous adventure – pee wee could not lose.. I remember seeing tremendous top pee wee in the theatre – and feeling very dissapointed with a movie that was unprejudiced not very fun or piquant.. Whereas ‘pee wee’s broad adventure’ explored more of pee wees quirkiness (remember the scene with the tape in the bathroom) ‘big top pee wee’ tried to select the character proceed him to a different setting and accomplish a sort of romantic comedy.. This is probably where it all falls apart.. pee wee should not be a romantic figure – he is the opposite.. he is best when he remains a sort of neuter or man child.. the second romance enters the represent.. pee wee loses all of his charm and comedy.. there are a few comical moments in substantial top pee wee but on the whole it falls flat.

Incredibly dreadful follow-up to the classic Pee-wee’s Substantial Adventure is unfunny and bizarre. Randal Kleiser, the director of such films of Grease and The Blue Lagoon, flubs up Pee-wee’s second and ultimately last feature. The movie starts off OK, with Pee-wee hamming it up as a Frank Sinatraesque crooner but then goes down hill from there. Movie somewhat redeems itself with the longest camouflage kiss in movie history but then finally hits rock bottom. The ending is wicked, and leaves a feeling of insecurity and confusion. When I first got this movie, I was expecting a droll movie, what I got was an overly bland mess of a movie. It serene is fascinating to peruse but doesn’t leave a feeling of satisfaction. When Pee-wee’s room isn’t even a runt bit fresh, you know there’s something heinous.

Has there ever been a more surreal and bizarre opening sequence to any present ever made in America than that of PEE WEE’S PLAYHOUSE? The Surrealists felt that one of the keys of art lay in our dreams, and the intro to this note seems like a contented nightmare of sorts. The music, Pee Wee’s uncommon vocal interjections, the variety of visual images, the introduction of the unique group of inhabitants living in the playhouse, all combine to protest to the would-be viewer that his was a point to that wasn’t going to go down any path that had been traveled by any previous expose.

For five seasons beginning in 1986, this was simply one of the most wonderful shows TV has ever produced. Paul Reubens was astonishing as Pee Wee Herman, literally a child with the appearance of an adult, who was a veritable encyclopedia of irritating habits that kids can prefer, with every annoying verbal near a kid has ever aged. Armed with a immense group of writers, a stellar cast, and some distinguished site and character designers, this point to did things that no kid’s indicate had ever done before or has done sense, though the influence on the more anarchistic line of kid’s cartoons can level-headed be detected. I would be willing to be that the makers of shows like SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS are fans of Pee Wee.

Unfortunately, this all came crashing to an waste when a sex scandal caused CBS to pull the reveal off TV. In fact, before the scandal they had already ceased making novel episodes of the point to. But the incident did two things: 1) it caused CBS to discontinue showing the indicate in reruns and 2) killed off any future expend of the Pee Wee character by Reubens. The series has been re-released on video, though it has been out of print for a number of years, and because of the sexual nature of Reubens demise, few networks have been willing to rebroadcast the reveal. Until this DVD release, PEE WEE has been more or less unavailable to the public.

Although Paul Reubens dominated the present as Pee Wee, the prove is improbable today for the considerable amount of talent on the reveal. Over the years I have been amazed at how many people remember Cowboy Curtis from the exhibit, but are unaware that Laurence Fishburne portrayed him. Captain Carl was played by Phil Hartman before he went on to star on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE for years. The second actor to play the King of Cartoons was William Marshall, star Blaxploitation cult classic vampire film BLACULA. Natasha Lyonne, who played Opal, went on to additional success as a child actress and as a young adult, including THE SLUMS OF BEVERLY HILLS and BUT I’M A CHEERLEADER. S. Epatha Merkerson, who played Reba the letter carrier, has gone on to a long career on LAW AND ORDER. And of course the woman who made Pee Wee’s heart skip a beat, the pleasing Miss Yvonne, was played by Lynne Marie Stewart, who has gone on to plays a host of supporting roles on TV and in film. All in all, you have to retort that this was far from a normal children’s cast.

But it wasn’t merely the human cast that made this explain so great. Inhabiting Pee Wee’s playhouse were an extraordinarily queer group of denizens, from Pterri the Pterodactyl to Mr. Kite to Mr. Windows to Chilly Cat and talking chairs, flowers, and fish. Conky the Robot would each week dispense that show’s secret word, a stunt seemed designed to irritate parents’ as considerable as possible. One of my popular recurring characters was the Salesman, whose appearance at Pee Wee’s door would cause awe and disconcerted screaming each week. And how could you portray Jambi to someone who hadn’t seen the prove before? A disembodied genie’s head who each week could solve whatever problems facing either Pee Wee or his friends with those fantastic words, “Mekka Lekka Hi-Mekka Hiney Ho!”

I’m gratified that these are available now on DVD. A whole generation of kids has passed not shiny what a mammoth thing they missed. Kids who are in high school today have only a vague notion about Pee Wee, though they might know his two movies. For many he was someone whose career ended because he did something very, very awful, though not many seem to know what that was. Now we derive to look all of these astronomical shows again, and they procure to glimpse him for the first time.

A must have for any DVD library, this groundbreaking, innovative series, Pee-wee’s Playhouse, was created and produced by the genius of Paul Reubens who also stars as pop culture icon, Pee-wee Herman. Pee-wee’s Playhouse is marked by a campy sensibility and frequent spend of double entendre, intriguing viewers of all ages.

Incorporating clips from vintage cartoons, 3-D animation, hand puppets, marionettes, and a cast of endearingly eccentric memorable characters, Pee-wee’s Playhouse is non-stop fun that might best be described as a wild mix of Mr. Rogers, The Wizard of Oz and MTV. Each episode, Pee-wee Herman welcomes you into his kaleidoscope, fantasy clubhouse for adventure through a labyrinth of zany characters and sci-fi inventions. High school teachers Jill Swinburne (Barbara Flynn) and Trevor Chaplin (James Bolam) are your average everyday couple. Except that they’re not married. Except they refer to their six-month-old son as “First-Born” because they haven’t yet democratically chosen a name. Except that they seem to attract quirky characters with good hearts and misplaced morals.

Alan Plater’s third, offbeat comedy thriller, “The Biederbecke Connection,” is a four-episode colorful romp through Jill and Trevor’s lives. They’re adjusting to family life, complete with bedtime stories of Duke Ellington. They’re also innocently harboring a mysterious refugee who speaks no English. Ivan (Patrick Drury) and Trevor quickly form a “Beiderbecke Connection” when they learn of their shared passion for Bix Beiderbecke, the legendary white jazz musician of the 1920s. Ivan is more than a jazz freak. He’s an ex-con with a past — and a present. Seems he loves playing games with other people’s money. If Ivan wins this game, he’ll single-handedly turn the world’s currency into chaos. The police must stop him, but first they have to find him.

Frank Ricotti, composer and arranger of the original music for the “Beiderbecke” series, performs in a special gust appearance in episode 2.

The unusual release of the Large Camouflage Garfield movie has had the bonus of getting released some classic feeble Garfield tunes of the 1980’s on DVD. A couple of months benefit saw the release of three classic Holiday specials with “Garfields Holiday Celebrations” and now we have GArfield’s Move Adventures consisting of three prime time specials from the 1980’s.

“Garfield in paradise” 1986, – Garfield, Odie and Jon seize off for the tropics, at a cheap resort. They go exploring, and meet a lost tribe that esteem former cars. This short was nominated for an Emmy for outstanding Engaging Program.

The transfers seek exquisite standard. There’s nothing enhanced but then I didn’t ask that there would be. And of course there are no extras at all. While i’m blissful to recognize these on DVD it would be gigantic to behold a complete collection rather than unprejudiced 3 episodes per DVD. But that’s a cramped quibble.

Interspersed with his better-known holiday classics, Fim Roman created these three prime time Garfield specials, released individually on video and now all together on DVD. Garfield in the Rough was a 1984 Emmy winner, with Garfield in Paradise (1986) and Garfield Goes Hollywood (1987) both Emmy nominees. This is the third collection to build it to DVD, along with Garfield as Himself and Garfield’s Holiday Celebrations, but there is serene more to approach, like Garfield’s Babes and Bullets, and the hour long Garfield’s Nine Lives. In 1994, Davis made the unheard of travel of buying the worldwide rights to his character from his syndicate, which led to releasing these DVDs through his possess company, PAWS. Garfield impartial hit his 40th book and the cat-astrophe shows no impress of letting up. So heat up the lasagna, kick support and do in this DVD.

This series are not poor for teens BUT it’s not beverly hills.

It’s title is fair cash-in to the common factual beverly hills series.

honest because one or two fresh actors returned and the title is “beverly hills” does not mean it’s the same series.

i would like to sight a continuation of the weak series with brandon, kelly and the rest of the gang living now as adults and not some modern kids who have nothing to do with the unique series.

Soldier is a rare experience that is far more than the spot, which has been outlined by the editorial comments. This is a meander taken by a strong warrior into his fill humanity. I cannot even count the number of times that I have watched this movie, but I know it is more than twenty. I examine more each time.

Kurt Russell’s astounding and great acting skills produce Sergeant Todd staunch. Successfully creating a character without dialogue is an art — and he mastered it. This movie provides insight into today’s violent world as well.

Todd has known nothing but war or training since he was born. He was conscripted in the hospital; he never knew esteem, or laughter, or how to play. He obeyed orders and did not yelp unless spoken to. The perfect soldier could not have emotions. If the only map to extinguish an enemy was to destroy innocent victims, then he did what was required.

Todd is the best soldier of the “primitive timers,” and he has been bested a original, genetically engineered soldier. One of the most poignant scenes is on the world where he was dumped for unimaginative. The survivors that created a life on Arcadia are nervous to have a soldier in their midst, and ask Todd why he is there alone. He stands, no expression on his faces, and says, “I was replaced by a better soldier, Sir.”

Although he acknowledges that he is no longer excellent enough to be a soldier, as his body heals he works to grow stronger and returns to the training rituals that have ruled his entire life. As he sees the interaction in the group that saved him, he is conflicted by emotions that he never experienced. When asked what he notion about, he says, “Panic. Anxiety and training.”

It is extremely painful for him to be exiled from these people because he is too strong, and his violent training is too hazardous. He does not understand what he feels. This is my common scene. He is alone in his exile, sitting in a concrete drainpipe with tears running down his face. He wipes the tears away, and with the skill of a colossal actor, Russell shows that he does not even know what they are.

The arrogant commander of the fresh soldiers considers Arcadia the perfect first “war.” Anyone on the planet was considered hostile. Three soldiers attacked the slight group, killing without provocation. They have no hope until Todd returns and saves the group. When he is asked what he would do, he says, “Raze them all, Sir.” He will not let the group succor him because “A soldier deserves a soldier.”

Good writing means that the hero must have an enemy equal to his abilities, and this has substantial writing. In facing the final soldier, Todd’s intelligence wins the battle.

I am passionate about this movie. The acting, spot, special effects, and depth get five stars.

Victoria Tarrani

It’s a 10. Capable acting by Kurt Russell; directed by Paul Anderson, genius slow _Blade Runner_. He captured the essence of dictatorship and its opposite: individualism. Initially the protagonist, Todd, follows orders, stale as a means to the ends of the Plot, a fighting machine who’s then discarded. But Todd survives being dumped on a heap of refuse on a desert planet, to build his plot to a petite settlement of free people. There he learns what it means to have selfish values and to admire a woman. When the totalitarians return to threaten her, only Todd can raze them. Fight scenes and interpersonal dynamics were masterfully done. This is not a simplistic action movie with bullets flying everywhere. This is action melded with luminous strategy, melded with a deep philosophical message. A sci fi classic, accurate along with Blade Runner.
