The Gundam timeline covers over 400 episodes in 14 series: 4 covering the One Year War, 5 covering the Universal Century, and 5 covering alternate universes. The portion we are receiving here in the US is the 49-episode Gundam Wing series, one of the alternate universes, aired in Japan from November 1996 through early 1998.

The story is set in the year A.C. (After Colony) 195. Five colonies have been set up in deep space at the Lagrange Points. Something about gravitational flux holding them in position above Earth. Anyways, they had lived in peace until a secret organization in the United Earth Sphere Alliance named Oz started infiltrating the ranks of the Alliance military. They proceeded to take the colonies by force, so five scientists (each from a different colony) sent special mobile suits, each piloted by a teenaged boy, down to Earth to destroy Oz. The suits are called Gundams because they are made of gundanium, a special alloy that can only be refined in microgravity.

The pilots are Heero Yuy (Japanese), Duo Maxwell (American), Trowa Barton (Unknown, European?), Quartre Reberba Winner (Arabic), and Chang Wufei (Called Wufei Chang in the US dub, but he’s Chinese, so family name comes first). Each has his own Gundam, his own cover, and his own adventure, though they often cross paths as the mission gradually changes from revenge on Oz to defending the planet and the colonies from total chaos.

Gundam Wing is the best of the entire Gundam saga, but don’t take my word for it. You’re gonna have to see for yourself.

The Gundam Saga began in 1979 with 3 movies entitled Shin Kidousenki Gundam (Mobile Siut Gundam) each movie was 2 1/2 hours long. This started a saga that now contains over 56 series, unrelated other than that they all contain the large Mechas (Robots) called Gundams. Gundam Wing premeired in 1995 in Japan and now (2000) is running with a English dub in the US on Cartoon Network. It is the story of 5 teenage Gundam Pilots and their adventures trying to save both the Earth and the space Colonies that sent them to fight. Each caricter has a rather disturbing past and there seems to be a lot of Yaoi hinting going on throughout the seriese between Duo Maxwell and Heero Yuy and between Quatre Raberba Winner and Trowa Barton (Triton Bloom). The seriese is 49 episodes long and contains a lot of violence. (Charicteristic of Mecha Animes). Contrary to what the Amizon review says the DVD is actually rated 13 and Up for language and violence and Quatre is spelled with an E at the end of it, not an A. The DVD also comes with a holographic image of Heero and Gundam Wing-01 and has the first 5 episodes dubbed and subtitled. This seriese has become my favorite over the last few months. It has truely great animation, the music is great and the vocal artists from both counrties are phenominal! If you enjoy GW then there is also a 3 part OVA seriese about these charicters that was released in 1998 (in Japan) called “Shin Kidousenki Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz” that Cartoon Network will be running soon in America. Shortly after it premeirs on TV it will be available to buy. It is actaully already available at Cartoon/Anime/Manga/Comic conventions in the US. It has been sighted at “Comic-com” in both subbed and dubbed formats.

I bought this dvd because I had wanted to watch Sarah Chang perform for so long. I was so lucky to find this “gem” dvd. She, a young Korean-American virtuoso, beautifully played such popular pieces as “Zigeunerweisen”, “Carmen-Fantasie” and “Meditation from Thais”. I noticed her way of playing the violin was different from other violinists including Gil Shaham, whose “Carmen-Fantasie” I own on dvd is also great. Her rendition was precise, strong and soft with such detail. As soon as I got this dvd, I watched the three pieces more than three times in a row. I mean, I just couldn’t stop watching her perform. Even though her playing was interrupted by audience’s clapping in the middle of “Carmen-Fantasie” and also by a child’s crying in “Meditation”, her redition never stopped being brilliant. In particular, her “Meditation” was the most peaceful and beautiful one I’ve ever listened to. Watching Domingo and the soprano was also enjoyable. Berlin Philharmonic always makes sound great.

Technically, this dvd is at top notch. Great vision quality with 16:9 anamorphic widescreen. Great audio quality with PCM stereo and dts/DD 5.1. The production was also almost perfect with the wonderful camera work. The studio is “EuroArt” (not Naxos of America) and region free (0).

Conclusion? You will love this dvd especially if you like violin music. As the other reviewer below, I just hope more Sarah Chang concerts dvds will be released…pretty soon.

I watched this DVD for the first time with some friends, and we were all reduced to ooohs and aaahhs. Placido Domingo brings out the best in everyone, and he sings at the end. The interviews with Placido Domingo and Sarah Chang, and behind the scenes documentary are also interesting. I hope there will be more DVDs featuring Sarah Chang. Her music can fill my soul with joy, and I hope that it will do the same for you.

Warner is without a doubt, the finest home video label in the industry. No doubt about it. Not even the commendable, but ultimately conventional Criterion label comes close.

So now, 8 years into DVD-dom, WB is finally giving us KING KONG. One of the greatest motion pictures ever made. One of the most popular. One of the most successful.

So why hasn’t it been on DVD all this time?

Buy,Download, Or Stream King Kong! Click Here

Because Warner wanted to do it right.

Warner owns the RKO library (although the previous owner, General Tire (no I’m not kidding) sold of foreign rights for several years in various countries for various periods of time) and although the foreign labels that have rights to these films quickly released them, Warner didn’t.

They knew the RKO library was in terrible shape, and with their near-perfect record of perfection on every release, they sought to find the best original film negatives and create the best extra material.

Many RKO films have finally started to be available from Warner over the last two or three years. In every instance, the Warner RKO DVDs have been heads-and-tails better than those released by the international companies who hold rights in their respective countries. I say this only because I’ve seen comparisons online between what WB has dome, and what was out previously overseas.

Looking at WB’s track record, we can expect a magnificent Kong transfer, the 8th wonder of the world! But there is more, this “collector’s tin” comes with something I have always dreamed of seeing, but never have. A reproduction of the lavish opening night souvenir program from the premiere at Grauman’s Chinese back in 1933. I read about it and the cover was reproduced in Ronald Haver’s great book about David O. Selznick.

Also, the tim comes with postcard sized renderings of original Kong posters, and best of all, you get a mail-in card that gets you a true theatrical-sized (27×41) reproduction of one of the original 1933 posters. Yes, these are reproductions, but considering the original Kong poster goes for I think 100K, an authorized, full-sized repro will look cool in my house.

I am also excited to see the special features I’ve heard about. Apparently, Peter Jackson (who has remade KONG for release at Xmas) is the original’s biggest fan, and contributed to the special features. In addition, Kong’s creator, Merian C. Cooper, is also given his own documentary here, and although he may not be a household name(by a longshot!), this guy not only created KING KONG, but also collaborated with John Ford on some of the greatest films ever made, and then went on to be the chief architect of Cinerama. The Cooper documentary has been made (so I’ve read online) by none other than Kevin Brownlow, who is, without question, the finest cinema documentarian of all time.

The wait is over. Now we just count the days. This tin is mine!

I’ll also be buying the other related Cooper movies like LAST DAYS OF POMPEII, THE SON OF KONG, and the original MIGHTY JOE YOUNG (with a tounge in cheek, and a very beautiful Terry Moore).

So the ultimate question is, what will be the greatest DVD classic of 2005. This seemingly magnificent uber-KONG from Warner, or the new Ultra-Resoltion 3 Disc mega set on WIZARD OF OZ. Likely it will be a tie. Admittedly, I’m a huge fan of Warner. 3 years ago, there were very few Warner DVDs on my shelf, as they seemed to ignore their library. Since then, it’s been Xmas almost every month. Those folks sure do a great job, and I’m sure their KING KONG, in that irresistable tin, will be worth the wait.

People that did not grow up watching this on Sunday TV matinees may not appreciate this movie as much. Anyone born in the last twenty years probably thinks Star Wars, Blade Runner, or some other SciFi is the best of the Century. I myself must vote for King Kong. My reasons are simple. I have probably seen about every SciFi movie made in the last seventy plus years, and none were so well done for their time as King Kong. This movie influenced many people in the industry to strive for their best in the genre.

Ray Harryhausen who was the best stop motion animator was greatly influenced by Willis O’Brien’s work in this movie. Ask directors like Peter Jackson, George Lucas, and Steven Spielberg and they will tell you it had a profound impact on them. Everything seemed to come together in this 1933 movie. The acting although a little corny has a nice appeal. The music is a nice touch of glitz in the city and foreboding danger in the jungle. It’s the adventure the movie takes us on that we love most. The sets were done masterfully and the big ape himself was remarkable. The creatures truly frightened people many years after it’s original release in the theater.

This set includes many extras like a theater guide, poster, documentary, et cetera. I am very pleased with the care Warner took in the reproduction of King Kong. The picture and sound quality are excellent. I have complained for many years that this movie should have been put on DVD. I am glad to see it is finally released. The last remake of King Kong was not very successful, it will be interesting to see if the Peter Jackson remake becomes a classic.

Any B&W fan will appreciate this film. I LOVED Robert Williams–I thought he was refreshingly original and had great chemistry with both of his female co-stars, two stunningly beautiful and very different women. The scene with the the song about the garters is priceless, and one of the sexiest scenes ever filmed(and there are many other breathtakingly sexy scenes as well). Although it should have been called “Cinderella Man”, in captures it’s time period in every way. I would have loved to see Robert Williams in other roles after this one, but he died very shortly after filming. You’ll also love the scene where Stew follows Ann into the library! Don’t miss this cool and sexy film.

Robert Williams doesn’t even get any billing on the DVD cover or on other promotions of this film, but he IS the star of the film….and he is outstanding.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Platinum Blonde! Click Here

Williams could have been a major star, a very well-known actor, had he not died four days after this picture was released with a ruptured appendix. The man simply puts on an acting clinic here. I wonder if young aspiring actors are ever shown this film and told to study Williams? If is wasn’t for this film, I assume nobody would ever know about this guy.

Anyway, the movie is really dated but its interesting thanks to some great dialog, mainly, once again, by Williams. Jean Harlow gets the billing but a young Loretta Young has the real beauty and charm here. Too bad her role was so minor and bland. She looked absolutely gorgeous.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Platinum Blonde! Click Here

The storyline is one of Hollywood’s favorite themes: the average Joe beating up on the snobby rich people. Harlow’s “mother” in here (Louise Closser Hale) plays that snob role perfectly.

Even though I gave it only three stars, there are lots of laughs in this film and it was a lot better than I thought it would be. Watching Williams’ acting performance is worth the price of the disc, and then some.

Television is an medium which cannibilizes its own successes, where one hit show inspires more variations on the same formula every pilot season. Those shows that invariably succeed do so because they take a formula and make it unique to their show. This is the case with NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service. It first appeared to be a combination of CSI and JAG, not shocking considering JAG producer Bellisario’s involvement as creator and executive producer and CSI’s overwhelming success. What it showed throughout its first season is that NCIS stands out in its own right through clever writing and great acting, making for solid, entertaining TV drawing a devoted fan base.

NCIS is the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, responsible for crimes by and against members of the United States Navy and US Marine Corps. The team of NCIS agents introduced in Season 1 is led by former Marine Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon), a tough no-nonsense leader and interrogator. The team also includes ex-homicide detective Special Agent Anthony DiNozzi (Michael Weatherly), former Secret Service Special Agent Kate Todd (Sasha Alexander), goth forensics expert Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette), computer specialist and rookie Agent Tim McGee (Sean Murray),(McGee appears in a cameo role 6 episodes in and quickly becomes a reoccuring character. By season 2 he is a full timer) and quirky coroner Doctor Donald “Ducky” Mallard (David McCallum). Each actor does an exceptional job developing their character, especially Perrette who makes Abby one of the best and most intriguing characters on TV.

In Season 1, the team investigates a broad range of crimes from the apparent parachute death of a Marine, sniper attacks against a Marine recruiter, the disappearance of a service member, and the infiltration of a Navy base by a suspected terrorist. The twists and turns are frequent and the tension is kept high. The dialogue between the team members while on the case is especially fun, the writers really making an effort to hint at deeper personalities while keeping a balance between funny and dramatic. There are some minor stumbling blocks, occasional episodes that are less than perfect, but overall , Season 1 was a runaway hit. Expect NCIS to remain a top show for CBS for many more years.

The set is in Dolby Stereo and 16×9 widescreen, and contains three featurettes: Creating Season 1, Building the Team, Defining the Look. The featurettes run about 20 minutes each, and have some great interviews with the cast and creater Bellisario. There is also an audio commentary by Bellisario for episode “Yankee White”. *SPOILER*

Killing a main character in the second season cliffhanger is a pretty shocking way to set up a third season. Ending with a bang, literally, NCIS returns with a excellent third season with the right combination of wit, drama, and cast. This is good television. And you dont let good television sit on the shelf too long, so hot on the heels of the release of the Second Season on DVD is the April release of the complete Season Three of NCIS.

The team also includes ex-homicide detective Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly), Mossad agent Ziva David (Cote de Pablo), goth forensics expert Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette), computer specialist and rookie Agent Tim McGee (Sean Murray), and quirky coroner Doctor Donald “Ducky” Mallard (David McCallum). Season Three witnesses the aftermath of Kate Todd’s murder by Ari, the introduction of Mossad agent Ziva David, and increased screen time for McGee and Abby. Harmon again does a knockout job as the lead, with his best work coming in the season premiere, as he grieves over the loss of Kate. Micheal Weatherley and Sean Murray continue to develop their competitive older-younger brother relationship, Perrette lights up the screen as Abby, and David McCallum delivers a refined and dignified performance.

Season three began with the two part episode Kill Ari 1 and 2, which examined the aftermath of Kate’s death and the hunt for Ari. The introduction of Ziva and Director Jenny Shephard (Lauren Holly) seemed out of place and awkward considering the emotional tone, and it took five or six episodes for Ziva to be less of a cardboard character and more a part of the team. Her first really impressive episode came with Tony in the solid “Under Covers”. Some of the better episodes include “Probie”, when McGee shoots a man who turns out to be an undercover cop, “Mind Games”, where Gibbs goes head-to-head with a serial killer, “Bait” which showcases a great performance by Weatherley. The season-ending Hiatus Parts 1 and 2 are decent episodes up to the last five minutes, which are incredibly rushed in order to get to the cliffhanger of Gibbs quitting NCIS.

The Season Three DVD box set contains all 24 episodes in widescreen for a total running time of almost 17 hours. Because of its quick turn-around time on the release, the extras are not as good as Season One, with only a few commentaries and featurettes anticipated. That is the unfortunate trade-off, but given that we get another full season of NCIS on DVD so quickly, its not a bad deal. Fans of the show will quickly snap this up, for those who have never watched before, if you liked JAG, CSI, or Bones, you will like this show. NCIS Season Three demonstrates exactly why this show is such a big hit. The DVD is on shelves in April. Highly Recommended.

Philadelphia Eagles Sports Football Camp

February 4th, 2010 by ryder4878538

Another keen section of training camp for fans is that they can gape the practice sessions without paying an arm and a leg for tickets. The media is there to observe as well to give football fans at home bulky reports as to how the players witness, who is going to be starting that year, and who may be injure. This will also be expedient to those who play Fantasy Football. The Eagles have been training at Lehigh for 13 years. The university has four football practice fields for the team to tell on, allowing coaches to work on different things at the same time.

The Eagles started to say at Widener University in 1973. The residence was featured in the movie “Invincible” about the archaic Eagles player Vince Papale. This proved to be very bright for both Eagles fans and Philadelphia natives. Philadelphia Eagles sports football camp stayed at Widener until 1980 when they moved their training camp to West Chester University. The team stayed there until 1995 when they made the go to Lehigh.

Philadelphia Eagles sports football camp is a gigantic time for the players to get decisions about the upcoming season. weak players who may have notion they would inaugurate or be a key player that year could easily work their draw down to second string. This could happen especially if a unique rookie comes on to the scene and steals their stammer. The coaches peruse intently as they beget their rosters and imperative decisions for the upcoming season.

Players can easily salvage distress in this intense strict workout they receive at Philadelphia Eagles sports football camp. This in turn could also give a second string player or rookie a chance to disappear into the starting lineup, or even launch a few more games than they expected. The coaches have a perfect opportunity to weed out the weaker players and place together plays for the upcoming season. They also have the chance to find to know the players better on a personal level, especially the novel players and rookies.

Training camp proves to be a very primary tool for everyone fervent. The players, coaches and even the media win to have their predictions for the fresh football season. Each year proves to be more attractive then the next and seeing the players win ready for the upcoming year brings about the football fan in everyone.

Preconceived Notions Are Your Enemy In Pee Wee Football

February 4th, 2010 by ryder4878538

We all seem to have preconceived notions about people, places and things based on the information we have been exposed to or often based on the point of belief of those in our immediate environment. In youth football, I can’t count the number of times I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the play and actions of teams and coaches. Quite often the reputation of these Pee Wee teams and coaches was a product of others, fair the aggregated frustration and covetousness of other youth coaches, nothing more than unbiased sour grapes. Unfortunately in the world of youth football coaching, these impressions and attitudes are pervasive, widespread and often deplorable.

Be start Minded

When coaching Pee Wee football, I try to go into these situations with an originate mind and a soft heart and let the other team and coaches display me spoiled. One of the most disliked and misunderstood coaches in two different leagues my teams have competed in has actually become a trusted friend and confidant. His organization has gone out of its scheme to treat us well and in turn we have gone out of our plot to do the same for them. Now our organizations relish a strong but respectful rivalry and we view forward to playing each other every year for the fair reasons. Would we have felt the same draw if we listened to others and came into the game with one toe in the water? Probably not.

gargantuan Mistake

Unfortunately I too succumb to making judgments about people I know runt about and in many cases these judgments are 100% sinister. I had the opportunity to meet and exhaust some time with Rick Neuheisel from UCLA last weekend at the Clinic of Champions in

Reno, Nevada. Coach Neuheisel gave a very spicy presentation on his version of the 2 microscopic offense and how UCLA will be drilling it this tumble. I knew of Coach from his days at Colorado, his Buffalos were always a ample game when my beloved Cornhuskers were on their schedule. Of course Coach Neuheisels unorthodox West flee “outward rush” attitude was diametrically opposed to the Nebraska no-nonsense, blue collar, physical ground attack attitude. Coach was not a very well liked man in these parts, the West flit persona, passing attack, surfer dude persona etc. Then there was the controversy at Washington University with a NCAA Tourney Hoops, pool, more poor publicity. For some reason, while no one around here knew the guy, he was known as “Skippy” and the usually polite Nebraska fans seemed to like to ridicule this man in the papers, on talk radio and in everyday fan conversation.

While one can’t lift too remarkable away from spending a couple of hours with someone, you can glean somewhat of a feel for that person in my plan. Coach Neuheisel opened his presentation with some background, he didn’t talk about his 66-30 collegiate head coaching recount or his championships, he talked about some humbling moments he had as a player and how we could portray that to our teams and kids. I didn’t know that Coach walked on at UCLA as a very undersized quarterback who was given number 24X as a freshman. X meant you were a duplicate number and probably would never suit up or pick up into a game. Number 24 by the draw that year was Freeman McNeil, so obviously they didn’t judge Coach N was going to obtain on the field. In those days they didn’t redshirt freshmen at UCLA. Fortunately for coach, one of the other freshmen got homesick and halt so Coach got this players number, #20. Coach N was never in the game program that year, in fact the other kid discontinue so gradual that Coach N was known by the modern #20’s name, not his believe, as the game programs had already been printed.

UCLA and Coach Neueheisel

As the season progressed, UCLA was having a very unpleasant season and the coaches were trying to salvage a spark on special teams. The coaches offered a chance to anyone that would volunteer to play special teams. Coach N volunteered to play and to his surprise the UCLA coaches assigned him to the kick return team, where his job was to block L4 on a trap type block. At objective over 195 lbs Coach had to block other teams linebackers that weighed 230-250 running at fat run with malice in their hearts on their kick coverage teams. Coach had a number of very self depreciating stories to deliver including one where he was knocked unconscious and his face camouflage was broken during one of these returns. He didn’t verbalize it in a manner to brag, but to announce and to obtain a bit of fun of himself. A quarterback playing special teams as a designated blocker, that impressed me. He never mentioned his Rose Bowl rep at UCLA or his Rose Bowl MVP award, nothing like that.

In the after-session mixer in the Speakers Suite Coach Neuheisel couldn’t have been different than what I imagined. He was frightened, cordial, not outgoing at all, trustworthy, humble and very willing to offer serve and guidance to any that asked, even to a lowly Pee Wee football coach like me. He went out of his blueprint to offer wait on and appreciation for what youth coaches do for the game of football. He looked you in the survey, gave you a firm handshake and listened intently to what you were saying, asking gigantic questions and asking for clarifications along the draw. I came away from that experience with a considerable different belief of Coach Neuheisel. He had absolutely nothing to collect by spending time with a youth coach from Nebraska, none of my kids are being recruited by UCLA and I’m certainly not a donor prospect for UCLA.

Lesson Learned

On my draw aid to my room I felt a bit ashamed at judging someone so wrongly without the back of more information or personal experience. I distinct hope I’ve learned my lesson, because my prejudging has so often been so immoral and it’s incongruent with how I want my contain kids or players to act. I had the very same experience with High School Coach Steve Calande from Pennsylvania, I was 200% unfavorable about him as well and now we are lickety-split friends. My understanding changed after finally meeting him at a coaches Clinic in Pennsylvannia in 2002. The suitable of the fable is fabricate your contain decisions about people, including players, youth football coaches and parents. hold an initiate mind and they may surprise you.

I’ve been on the other raze of those situations myself. I can’t count the number of times guys have advance to me after a clinic and told me while they were looking forward to hearing me announce, I was grand different (in a postitive draw) than they had expected. I’m not a score at all costs Pee Wee football coach in any contrivance shape or fabricate. Our premise is: you can score, have fun, play kids, be broad sports and inform gargantuan fundamentals too, they aren’t mutually curious goals.

For all those DVD owners who are Errol Flynn fans or just plain love movies of the 30’s and 40’s, Santa Fe Trail is a fine film. Never mind political correctness or historical accuracy (none to be found), just smile and emerse yourselves in great entertainment by great stars…Errol Flynn (JEB Stuart), Raymond Massey (an awesome John Brown), Ronald Reagan (Custer), Olivia de Havilland, Alan Hale, et al. Solid performances by all.

The Roan Group did a good job transferring the movie to DVD…the sound is good and the picture clear. One can only hope that more of Flynn’s movies will be transferred to DVD. To date none of his truly great movies, The Adventure’s of Robin Hood, The Sea Hawk, Gentleman Jim, The Charge of the Light Brigade, Dodge City, Captain Blood, and Objective Burma are no where to be seen on the DVD horizon. A real travesty for all fans of Hollywood’s Golden Age.

Errol Flynn and Ronald Reagan star as soldiers out to thwart abolitionist John Brown in this action film set in the years just prior to the start of the Civil War. The U.S. is divided on the issue of slavery, and Brown has managed to stir the pot quite a bit. Flynn’s best leading lady Olivia de Havilland is along again, this time as the tomboy that both Flynn and Reagan love. Van Heflin is a former fellow cadet of theirs who works for Brown, and Alan Hale is along for another ride with Flynn, providing the comic relief as usual. The performances are all good, with particular praise going to Raymond Massey as Brown, giving an insane, Jesus-like turn as the man whose motives are right, but whose means are very, very wrong. The script mixes a lot of action with humour and romance, plus a few political speeches. The happy ending seems tacked on, but other than that, it works well enough. A lot of people comment on the historical inaccuracies of this film (it’s even mentioned on the video box description!), but my reaction has always been that you don’t watch a Hollywood movie for a history lesson. Dramatic necessities will always lead to changing history to suit the film’s needs. Instead, just sit back, enjoy the action, the chemistry of Flynn and de Havilland, the humour, the great score, and simply take away the idea of what the time must have been like, rather than the facts.

Definitely one of Hayley Mills best films. Her fans definitely love it. Burl Ives, Dorothy McGuire, and Michael Pollard are wonderful in their roles as well as Hayley. The sets and music are delightful in this movie about an earlier time when life was simpler and although challenging, much kinder. Hayley does a fine job playing a young lady that is always full of optimism. In some respects like the optimism of Bing Crosby in “The Bells of St. Mary’s”. She charms her way to get what she wants. This color movie doesn’t seem to age, since if you didn’t know when it was made, you would think it could have been recently. Amazingly families today still find this an enjoyable movie, but then it is an amazing movie. Full of warmth and values of the heart. I recommend it to all, but especially to anyone that enjoys the older Disney classics.

When Disney studios brought together a talented cast, a simple but effective script, and their family oriented production values, the result was often magic. Such was the case with this film, one of Hayley Mills’ best.

When we join the movie the Carey family is under difficult times. Margaret Carey’s (Dorothy McGuire) husband has recently passed away. Stock investments made by Mr. Carey have added to the family’s fiscal woes. As Mrs. Carey struggles to figure out how the family will survive, headstrong Nancy Carey (Mills) has taken matters into her own hands by writing to Mr. Ossium “Osh” Popham (Burl Ives in one of his best roles) to ask whether a certain yellow house was available for rent. That Nancy exaggerated the extent of the family’s financial need is temporarily overlooked, but not forgotten. Mr. Popham is more than happy to help the family and invites them to move into the yellow house for a modest rent.

The yellow house turns out to need a fair amount of work to make it livable, and Osh, who is also the owner of the local general store, continues to aid the Careys as they make improvements. We soon find out that Osh has not communicated with the owner of the house, Tom Hamilton (Peter Brown), with respect to all the various happenings related to the yellow house, and we know that at some point there will likely come a reckoning.

Adding to the family oriented fun is younger brother Peter Carey (Jimmy Mathers), who finds a creative way to get his hair cut, and then adopts a dog for the family. Cousin Julia Carey (Deborah Walley) is forced to move in with the Carey’s due to financial circumstances with the family she has been living. That well-to-do family and their lifestyle causes a lot of stress in the financially strapped Carey family as Julia tends to mention them far too much.

Other supporting cast members include Una Merkel as Mariah Popham and Michael J. Pollard as Digby Popham. Michael also appeared in an episode of the original “Star Trek” television series.

The movie is somewhat anachronistic as feminism is equated with hiding your true self, particularly in the quest for seeking a husband. Yet, with that same definition of feminism we see strong female roles for Dorothy McGuire and Hayley Mills, so the relatively archaic attitude towards feminism is tempered somewhat.

As with any Disney movie, the realities of life are not completely ignored, and the long-absent Tom Hamilton finally shows up. While the difficult issue of what Mr. Hamilton will do with a family that has become somewhat of a squatter in his house, the ending does provide hope that all will turn out well in spite of Nancy’s fears of the “yellow peril.”

This movie has a few brief moments that may tinge on unsuitability for younger audiences, but parents should be able to explain those situations. Otherwise, I consider this movie suitable for families including even the youngest children. This movie is a winner that any family will find to be an excellent addition to their video collection.

I’m actually not a big Marco Antonio Solis fan though I was familiar with a few of his bigger hits. Purchased the video just to have something to watch on a “rainy day”. However, turned out to really enjoy it!

All best of songs of the maestro of the mexican and spanish song.Don’t miss Como tu mujer with Pasion Vega!
