The Shield may be lamentably gone from TV, but prominent alumnus Kurt Sutter seems to have taken it upon himself to carry on its legacy with Sons of Anarchy, and if the show’s first season is any indication he’s more than up to the task. Anyone who enjoyed The Shield’s combination of intelligence and testosterone will certainly accumulate a lot to like here, as SoA hasty established itself as among TV’s most new and consistently compelling shows and only got better from there. Striking a near-perfect balance between grit and sensationalism, it takes viewers through a world marked by violence, double-dealing, and racial division, with an emphasis on the ambiguous morality and personal and familial baggage that arrive with a life lived between the straight world and the criminal one. The machinations of the characters and the twists of the place are almost operatic, but the note remains rooted in the harsh realities of gangland.

The premise is sort of Hamlet-meets-the-Sopranos: youthful biker and original dad Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) finds himself trying to balance work with personal life as the Vice President of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcylcle Club Redwood Novel (aka SAMCRO), a gun-running biker gang co-founded by his gradual father and now hasten by his stepfather Clay Morrow (the ever-swaggering Ron Perlman), who’s married to Clay’s widowed mother Gemma (Katey Sagal, in splendid remarkable the biggest departure possible from her Married With Children days) . From the somewhat hippie-ish beginnings envisioned by Jax’s father, SAMCRO has evolved into a criminal powerhouse, especially in their central California spoiled of Charming, where they’re practically a small-town Mafia. These guys may not be as poor as the Hell’s Angels, but the display makes it sure that they’re far from harmless nonconformists, as we peek them running guns, committing murders and (in one particularly handsome scene) burning off the tattoo of a perfidious passe member. Further cementing his area as Hollywood’s leading Jewish tough-guy actor, Perlman is impossible not to stare as Clay, the club leader who walks a fair line between toughness and ruthlessness. Clay’s a classic antihero in the Tony Soprano-Vic Mackey mold, whose occasional moments of decency don’t quite compensate for his myriad of terrible acts, but he’s practically a softie compared to his wife. Taking the view of standing by her men very seriously, Gemma’s the very relate of steely determination, willing to say and do anything to safeguard her family, and she shares both Clay’s ability to examine all the angles and his lack of reservations in doing what needs to be done.

The voice-over narration of John’s journal is a bit of a contrived way in a point to largely devoid of them, but it does nicely frame the struggles that arrive to clarify the season. This season also sees a succession of gigantic supporting turns from recognizable faces–Jay Karnes as a zigzag ATF agent with a thing for Jax’s ex, Mitch Pileggi as a vicious Nazi meth lord, Ally Walker as an enjoyably amoral Fed who vows to prefer the Sons down–that only encourage to up the entertainment quotient. Even the law-enforcement officers–the shady, compromised Chief Unser and the more principled, by-the-book Deputy Chief Hale–eventually emerge as multi-dimensional characters in their hold fair.

Overall, it’s extremely difficult to rep fault with this season. SoA seems to have flown under the radar a bit while shows like Aroused Men and Breaking Awful pick up all the acclaim, and while those are both ample shows I mediate SoA easily holds its have as one of the best on TV apt now. If it maintains its level of quality in season two, we viewers could have yet another all-time big on our hands.

Fantastic demonstrate and Grand extras on the DVD! Always luxuriate in it when a DVD site includes extras. Includes deleted scenes, a gag reel, films about the tattoos, the motorcycle customization, casting decisions account including the novel audition tapes for all the cast. Also includes some audio commentaries.

All in all, a substantial DVD place and that’s not to mention the point to itself. Charlie Hunnam steals every scene he is in. He is electrifying, vibrant and SO talented. You can’t capture your eyes off watching him every moment he is on the hide.

The exhibit is fantastically written but even better is watching Hunnam interact, especially with his girlfriend–wow, their scenes are hot! Some actors are objective really fascinating to view, they can do more with a gape or a word than others do with entire lines. Hunnam is one of these.

His character is the vice-president of the Sons of Anarchy but his intelligence, questioning of the location quo and determination to stick to his beliefs means he is in conflict with those in the club who either have no morals, easily leave them unhurried or only care about money.

Hunnam is animated to survey, in one scene he is emotional or tender to his girlfriend or family, then the next he is violently asserting his will in clashes where he defends his principles or makes a point.

There is an keen tension showing his desire to be impartial in the world, yet his need to be duplicitous, because of gun-running or other illegal activities.

The scene where he finds a gawker sitting on his bike, and is pretending to be good then beats the guy to the ground, telling him “Don’t EVER sit on another man’s bike!” is an illustration of this.

There is a stillness to Hunnam’s portrayal which brings so considerable interest to the character. Instead of going on and on about something, he’ll impartial say “Are you ready for this? ” and with a short sentence and a gaze, will say everything.

The audio commentaries are really humorous too. There’s one scene where they expose Hunnam with his shirt off and the show’s creator says “This is one for the ladies!” and he is so accurate.

All in all, this DVD is well worth buying and keeping, not impartial a rental.

Sequels outmoded to be about remaking the same film again and again (remember “Friday The 13th” or “Nightmare on Elm Street”? ) with minor variations so the audience gets their fix. While not as memorable as that film, “Sprint from L. A.” takes perfect aim at liberal Hollywood, the conservative religious apt, sequels and skewers them all lifeless on most of the time.

Heck, there’s got to be a promo section somewhere in Paramount’s vault about this as I seem to remember one being released to promote it) because, while isn’t quite up to “Hurry from Original York”, “Sprint from L.A.” is detached a memorable sequel with enough satire, parody and humor laced moments to withhold fans of the unusual satisfied. Hopefully one of these days this minor Carpenter classic will net the re-evaluation it deserves.

When I first saw this film in the theaters, I really didn’t like it. In fact, I was blooming let down! I had grown up with Race From Unusual York, and to my fear, John Carpenter remade his gain film! I’m not kidding, REMADE it. Apt down to Snake getting shot in the leg and limping for the last half of the film. Years later I revaluated my notion. You can’t fabricate a film as corny as this on accident, especially if you’re a faded director like John Carpenter; It had to be done on purpose. I’ve read numerous interviews over the years and have found out two things, and I assume these two things are the reason this film ended up the contrivance it did. First, John Carpenter hates sequels. He never wanted to effect sequels to his films. He never wanted a sequel to Halloween(let alone six! That’s why he produced Halloween 3 which people hated so mighty, coz he was trying to engage this series in a different direction and not retread the whole Michael Myers thing) . I also understand that both Carpenter and Kurt Russell were under alot of studio pressure to gain this film. I don’t know what kind of favor Carpenter owed the studio, but he made this film. And my theory is that he made this film intentionally poor to say to the studio, “There, I made the stinking sequel you wanted, don’t ask me to do it again!” I mean really, if he had wanted to beget a sequel to Sprint From Recent York, don’t you believe he would have struck while the iron was hot and made it at the height of the first film’s success instead of waiting 15 years? Judge about it. When I believe this scenario, I can peek Run From L.A and have a great laugh thinking that John Carpenter may have played a large joke on the Hollywood studios. Really, there’s no procedure Carpenter included that surfing scene with the plot of it being taken seriously. The film is objective map too overblown, diagram too cheesy and obviously a carbon copy of the current to be anything other than a joke. Kurt may be older now, but he’s actually quiet able to play Snake Plissken like it’s 1980. The performance is sizable, it’s unbiased the film surrounding Kurt that’s humorous. Try watching it again and peruse what you consider.

Christmas fair isn’t Christmas unless you ogle at least one version of A Christmas Carol, and this is by far my accepted. George C. Scott gives one of the greatest performances I have ever seen an actor give; he truly becomes Ebenezer Scrooge to the fullest degree possible. Scott can say more with impartial the slightest hint of a facial movement than many actors can say during the course of an entire movie. No matter how many times you study this movie, it proves itself qualified of bringing a mosey to your inspect, a lump in your throat, and ultimately the very spirit of factual holiday cheer and Christian charity that Dickens intended it to philosophize.

I cannot say I have seen every adaptation of A Christmas Carol, but I really cannot absorb any other version could exceed the quality and emotional impact of this one. No matter how many times I read the sage or explore the movie, it remains a source of eternal joy to me. This is more than a movie for me; it is an distinguished and vital section of each and every Christmas holiday season.

Probably helps that I’ve watched it almost every year since it came out. The acting is estimable, especially from Scott. The costumes, scenery, and effects are extraordinary as well, and they stick very halt to the fresh narrative. Short Circuit is one of those movies that when it came out in 1985 I remembered walking out thinking what a fun film that was. Alley Sheedy and Steve Guttenberg were a astronomical veil team. And unusual of Saturday Night Fever ad Wargames, director John Badham really showed the compassionate side of humanity. This is a warm and agreeable family film for everyone.

The comedy Number 5 shows in “Short Circuit” will please kids as well as adults with hilarious and touching moments at times. Stare for outstanding filming throughout Oregon that in my understanding is almost like driving through Arizona. I notion it would be tough for Up to match the emotional power of Wall-E. The two Pixar films are similar in their lack of dialogue in the first act, which helps deepen the emotional impact. In the process, Carl learns to let go of his dark mourning for Ellie, and live life again. When this happens, a truly magical thing happens. Before, Carl’s craggy face is gray and monochromatic. At the moment of his transformation, Carl’s face is awash in color, and he is surrounded by delicate hues. It reminded me of The Wizard of Oz, when Dorothy steps out of her gray world and into a candy-colored Munchkinland. Carl, too, enters a whole recent world.

Up is a deeply emotional film, chunky of truth. It’s the year’s best film. Fetch another triumph for Pixar.

Someday, Pixar is going to do it — they’re going to acquire an emotionally uninspiring, lackluster absorbing movie. But in the meantime, they’re aloof putting out delicious enchanting movies like “Up,” which defies the usual kid-movie conventions by starring a crotchety used man. It’s a charming, fun microscopic adventure anecdote with flying dogs and balloon-powered houses, but underlying it is a bittersweet dinky chronicle about loss and fancy.

As a child, the fearful Carl Fredricksen bonded with the oddball Ellie over their shared care for of adventure, the explorer Charles Muntz, and Paradise Falls. They later married, travel into their “clubhouse” together, and lived a long, sadly childless life together. When Ellie died, she had never fulfilled her dream of going to Paradise Falls.

Now crotchety, alone and harassed by a trusty estate developer, Carl (Ed Asner) is finally ordered to a retirement home. But he isn’t going quietly — instead he attaches thousands of balloons to his house and floats it away toward South America. But he accidentally takes an fervent, naive Wilderness Explorer (a thinly-veiled Boy Scout) named Russell (Jordan Nagai) along for the scamper. Abominable kid was fair trying to gain an “assisting the elderly” badge.

And the jungle scurry to Paradise Falls turns out to have some surprising obstacles: a gigantic emulike bird that Russell names Kevin, a talking dog named Dug (”I am jumping on you, bird!”), and a mysterious worn man who lives deep in the heart of the jungle. Turns out the weak guy is very familiar to Carl — and to pick Kevin, he’s willing to sacrifice Carl and Russell.

Industry experts were babbling about how “Up” wouldn’t be as accepted as the previous Pixar movies, because the protagonist is basically a crusty mature coot. Well, shows what they know. It ended up becoming one of those classic movies that somehow appeals to all ages — while the humor and action appeal to children, adults can devour Carl’s adore for his lost wife, and his listless realization that he’s clinging to the past.

In fact, the first ten minutes are some of the most heart-tugging, quietly bittersweet scenes I’ve seen in a long time. Without a word, they prove all the ups and downs of a realistic marriage — joys, sorrows (Ellie’s inability to have children), growing primitive together, and finally loss.

But it’s not a depressing movie by any stretch — in fact, it’s like a childhood fantasy near to life, complete with a floating house suspended on hundreds of balloons, and biplanes piloted by a talking dog army.. Plenty of astronomical dialogue (”Do you want to play a game? It’s called Watch Who Can Go the Longest Without Saying Anything.” “Cold! My mom loves that game!”) and an action-packed climax in an used airship.

Ed Asner is absolutely perfect as ubergrouch Carl — crotchety, grumpy, and sure to fulfill his wife’s lifelong dream, but gradually realizing he’s clinging to the past. Nagai is equally perfect as Carl’s polar opposite: a naive, chattery Scout who is clear to reunite Kevin with her baby chicks. And the utterly adorable Dug and the other dogs deserve special contemplate. These creatures are utterly hilarious — they talk (”I hid under your porch because I care for you”) and act the diagram dogs would if they talked. Three words: cone of shame.

The two-disc edition is going to have some very nice extras, but once again people with regular-def DVDs are going to regain shafted because the Blu-ray edition will have a bunch of curious stuff. Grr. As for this one, there’s a digital copy, the director’s audio commentary, kinda-alternate-ending “The Many Endings of Muntz,” and the documentary “Adventure Is Out There” about the research for this movie.

There are also a pair of adorable bright shorts. “Partly Cloudy” has a much-abused stork having to stammer potentially nefarious baby creatures from a kind but clueless cloud. Well, trying many approaches for helping him, I view I’d hold a chance and obtain the Talking Words Factory from Amazon.com, especially since the reviews were so reliable.

I am very, very glad with this DVD! My son watches it quite often, and he’s now reading books on his enjoy. I can stare a marked disagreement in a matter of WEEKS. Before, he had to judge about how some of the letters sounded. Now, he rattles them off like a pro–as well as 3-letter words!

This DVD also teaches about vowels and consonants, so he’s learning how the vowels are sticky like glue, holding words together (thanks to Professor Quigley’s Sticky-Ick-O-Rama machine!) . The Word Whammer machine shows children how to achieve the consonants and vowels together, and how they sound. I like the fact that they’ll switch around the vowels with the same beginning and ending consonants, to highlight how a vowel sounds within a word.

Talking Words Factory also teaches rhyming, which is a bonus.

Highly recommended!

I have never felt strong enough to actually acquire the time to write a review. I am a certified k-6 teacher who has told everyone I know about Leap Frog’s 4 extraordinary movie and now I am telling you…

LF Letter Factory: This was the first (out of 4) Leap Frog Movie that my children watched. My 3 1/2 year archaic and 2 years 2 month old-fashioned boys are allowed to gaze 1 movie a day. Each Day they agreed, in excitement, to watched this movie. Under a week my 3 1/2 year obsolete knew his letter sounds. He could utter the letter sound song almost as quickly as he could lisp the alphabet. After a week, he amazed us when he sat down on the ground and wrote out the entire alphabet like a 4th grader. Had NO conception he could write like this! Shortly thereafter, the 2 year conventional knew all his letter sounds and letter recognition.

Talking Words Factory: I was so impressed that I bought them the Talking Words Factory that 2nd week. I wasn’t surprised that my 3 1/2 year ragged began to spell, writing, and sounding out 3 letter words. He told me all about how the vowels were all sticky and their job was to stick letters together to acquire words. He went around singing the vowel song.

My kids loved the videos so mighty that for 10 months…My son’s (who venerable to play with Thomas the Trains and puppies) were obsessed with letters and words. They made their bear letter and word factory machines out of their toys and tubs, drew each letter cartoon character, and sang the letter and vowel songs, and the older one wrote, yes wrote, many of his maintain homemade books.

Talking Word Factory 2: It doesn’t finish there…They got the Talking Word Factory 2 and Math Circus when they came out this Christmas. In a couple of days, the now 4 year used, was telling me all about sh, ch, th, and other blends. He told me how the soundless e at the ruin of the word made the other vowel say its name (long vowel sound) . He went on to explain me also how “when 2 vowels go walking the first one does the talking.” And he wrote and read novel complex words such as, boat, home, dime, wait, etc. This really increased his ability to read many, many unique words – 8 letter words too!

Math Circus: They loved it too! Though it is snappy involving for beginners, it is moving and has an easy plan. Adding and subtracting now comes magnificent easy for my 4 year faded. I gave him a math work sheet for addition and subtraction unbiased for kicks. Wouldn’t you know it, he did all of them with no predicament. He was so enthusiastic in adding that he started asking about problems such as 3 + 3 + 3. Which helped him learn the understanding of multiplication 3 x 3, 3 x 4, etc. But, we told him that he had plenty of time to learn that later!

The only negative comments that I have to say about these Leap Frog videos: Nothing, Oh, except that I wish my children weren’t so obsessed with letters! They eat, breath, and sleep letters. Sometimes I objective wish they would play with the trains, cars, and other toys. They will have their entire school life to learn about letters and reading! I objective hope that when the time comes for school that they won’t have grown board of it!

LF Fridge Phonics Magnets – Worship it. It sings each letters song when you attach the letter in the hole.

LF Word Whammer Fridge Phonics Dwelling – LF fair came out with this. I know that they will care for. I bought it for the next birthday! It is like the Fridge Phonics, but you can spell 3 letter words.

LF Letter Factory Board Game – Cherish it too! It is interactive and the board game talks and sings!

LF Utter Along Letters Flash Cards & CD – Songs from the DVDs. Not that you don’t hear the songs sang enough from your children!

Wish they would earn computer CD’s too!

LF Leap Pad – Fun but they got board with the same books over & over. $14 a book!

There are many others, but I had to plan the line somewhere!

If you check all the other reviews, I am not alone. Only two out of 121 people gave this movie less than 5 stars! It is about time someone made a movie that parents and children both agree on! Thank you Leap Frog!

I bought The Prisoner on Blu-ray yesterday. Contrary to the one star reviews that were written before the Blu-ray release by people that had not seen the Blu-ray position yet, I can definitively say the represent and sound quality is top notch and is 100x better than the previous US dvd releases. (which I also enjoy and compared it too.)

There really is no comparison here. The previous dvd’s were muddy and the describe quality was severely lacking. The image on the Blu-ray release is crisp, certain and looks absolutely improbable. It looks like it could have been filmed yesterday.

I reflect if I had one complaint it would be that the fifth disc that contains many of the extras is a regular DVD and not in HD. However colorful that I would smooth have bought this site and been completely pleased with my consume.

I only discovered this movie about four years ago but have watched it every Christmas since. To me it’s the best version of the Christmas Carol ever made, and now it gets the best treatment you could have ever hoped for. This two disc collector’s edition contains two different versions of this movie. First is the colorized version, but then the second is the loyal treat. They went wait on to the unique prints of this and worked from there. After carefully removing the skips, scratches, and jerky frames, they digitally restored the movie to a version that looks as if it were made yesterday! The sound has been changed to 5.1 digital surround, and there’s even a widescreen version for 16:9 televisions.

The special features include an earlier version of Christmas Carol (not as suited as this one), as well as several featurettes on the movie, interviews with the stars, a feature on Alistair Sim, and others.

You can negate the distributor place a lot of inconvenience into this restoration and it shows. I wish they’d do the same for other immense films like “It’s a Astonishing Life” and “The Bishop’s Wife”.

Highly recommended as the best version of this classic you’ll regain anywhere.

Although this 1951 classic film takes some liberties with the Dicken’s new, it remains the film most faithful to the recent tale. Some of the sets and costumes were directly inspired by the memorable illustrations in the first edition of the book. Alastair Sim is very convincing as the miserly Scrooge who, after a hideous night of ghostly visits, is transformed into a man who knows how to support Christmas in his heart.

There have been many DVD editions of this holiday celebrated in original years, several of them from VCI Entertainment. In this package, VCI has included some things featured on previous releases (commentary, Dickens biography, etc.), but the proper star of this state is the beautifully restored version of the shadowy and white film. According to a short feature on the restoration of the film, VCI has finally been able to acquire film elements from the unique master. Apparently they didn’t have access to a complete master, so they broken-down several of the best prints they could rep and digitally read them to settle which frames were the best available. The rest was cleaned up by hand. It sounds like a labor of cherish, and the result is visible on the shroud. The restored print is available in 4×3 and 16×9 in 1:37:1 format. (According to the Amazon product description page, the aspect ratio is given as 1:87 and elsewhere as 1:33, the DVD box says 1:37.) There are a few seconds of less than pristine audio, but overall this is a fair peril.

A nice touch I’ve never seen on a DVD before is an optional audio track for the blind, in which a narrator describes the action on the hide pausing for dialog from the actors. A wandering commentary track with Marcus Heard and George Cole (young Scrooge) is included. Great of the commentary is reprised in a feature interview by Heard in which Cole reminisces about Alastair Sim, “Spirit of Christmas Past.” The audio is in English only. Subtitles are in English or Spanish.

The second disc offers the novel 1935 Seymour Hicks’ film version of the chronicle. A colorized version of the 1951 film is also included on Disc 2; the brief introduction by Patrick McNee (young Marley) has been seen before on previous releases of the colorized version. There are also theatrical trailers from the UK release (”Scrooge”) and the US release (”A Christmas Carol”) .

VCI has given us a delicate package here. They’ve done a mammoth job with the restoration of a film esteem. Many viewers will never have seen such a capable print of this holiday popular before. The bonus features are a nice inclusion, but the restoration is the true reason to catch this edition. Highly recommended!

After publicizing this release as a 2 disc place, disney finally changed its mind and released it as a barebones single disc. Those who were waiting to derive all those spacious tedious the scenes stuff available previously on “tarzan 2 disc collector’s edition” will be thoroughly disappointed with this release.

However, those who missed out on previous 2 disc collector’s edition and want to believe tarzan on a two disc space, tranquil have the option of buying it from amazon.co.uk, where it has been released as a 2-disc special edition with all those unhurried the scenes stuff from previous collector’s edition. Honest build definite you have a multi-region dvd player which plays discs from all regions.

Do not prefer this unless you objective want to possess the film. Better level-headed search for the frail collector’s edition. It will be worth all the money spent.

The movie is grand, I like it at home as considerable as I did in the theater, BUT…There appears to be a glitch with the sound. The front left and rear good audio channel is SWITCHED. Disney is aware of this predicament (on 1.5 million disks) and isn’t doing ANYTHING about it!
