I didn’t expect to buy this. First, I *hate* white electronics (they usually look cheap and like they should carry the Fisher Price logo). Second, I know people who have had serious issues with HP laptop motherboards. However, last week Staples had it for about two hundred bucks less than its MSRP which was about two hundred less than I expected to pay for these specs. I couldn’t resist.

I’m happy with the design. First, the white is not so bad. It has a shiny “pearl” like surface, a subtle graphic design on the cover/wrist rests and black and silver trim. This all makes it look more grown up and stylish than other white laptops. Second, compared to other laptops with these specs it’s not too big or heavy. It’s in-between a netbook and most full sized laptops. Also, the weight can be reduced by half a pound by swapping out the DVD drive for a dummy piece which is included.

I’m overall happy with the performance and quality. Seems fast and smooth for the most part, and I’m not currently having any problems with it. But I had a couple of initial problems. First, I had to take the first one I got back due to a stuck pixel that I couldn’t unstick with any software programs. I didn’t want to risk voiding the warranty with any physical methods. The second one I got was stuck-pixel-free. However, I was having serious issues playing internet video. That was a big deal to me. I tried a live chat rep – I think he was illiterate – he kept asking for info I had already provided, completely misconstrued my problem and even when I explained it for the 3rd time, he offered completely inappropriate solutions (e.g. program specific solutions, when I had told him it was in all programs). Somewhat dubious, I finally called tech support. I got a guy who was GREAT. Granted it took us over an hour of troubleshooting, but he finally figured it out. The issue was the wi-fi card driver. It just needed to be updated with the newest, which was posted on HP’s site. So, I highly recommend checking HP’s site for the latest driver updates, especially if you’re having this issue.

And I agree with the other reviewer about the battery – 2 to 3 hours is what you can reasonably expect, but it depends on what you are doing. And yes, it is very quiet. Also, I should note that I did not get the rectangular remote shown on the bottom of this page with mine. I only got the small card one shown in the pictures up top. So, I don’t think that other remote comes with it. (EDIT: Since I posted this review, Amazon has replaced the picture of the remote, it now shows a correct remote).

Just in case, I picked up Squaretrade’s 3rd party extended warranty. It was a great price compared to Staples’ and HP’s plans. And it will protect me if this ends up being a lemon or if my dog flies into the cord and knocks it off the coffee table.

Ordered this over the weekend, what a superb machine i mean super quiet, really fast, doesn’t heat up and has all the latest multimedia features. I removed the optical drive (slide and remove) and lost about half a pound on the weight. Battery is great gave me 3.5hrs. I don’t have any complains. Do yourself a favor and ignore the other two reviews. For $689 this is a steal.

I paid full price for this HP DV4 1540US laptop on November 5th 2009. I received the delivery of the computer promptly on Monday November 9th 2009. But when I opened the box it felt like I got a used/refurbished computer

Computer was loosely placed in the box without any cover. The power cord was open and placed loosely on the top of the computer….The user manual was open and placed on the computer instead of its designated location…I was very disappointed with the quality of packaging…It felt like the computer was opened used and then sent to me…It was very disappointing to get this kind of service quality from Amazon…

…I was so excited when I ordered the new computer after almost 5 years…(My Dell Dimension 5100 desktop died on me week before!! so decided to get a new computer)..but this made me rethink/doubt about Amazon’s commitment to customer satisfaction and quality.

Please keep this in mind before ordering electronics from Amazon.com.

Ok, first I’d like to say that of all the head units I looked at, I was glad I got this one. Installation was simple and all the screws fit exactly where they should (I have a Subaru Impreza 2008).

What I like the most (and very applicable to Sirius/XM radio listeners) is the multi-line display. I get channel number, band name, song title and channel name all displayed together. The eq has quite a few options that make for an overall customizable sound. The background has multiple customizable colors which is nice.

What I don’t like ( mind you I am glad I got this but these are some pretty important things ) is the fact that there are only 6 presets… 6 PRESETS???? Maybe FM/AM is different but I listen to Sirius and so far I can’t find any way to add more than 6 Presets. IF SOMEONE KNOWS PLEASE POST IT. The knobs are a pain in the a$$ and it seems like there is a high probability of breaking them sooner or later. Also, as many people repeat, the display is unreadable during the day. Granted this may have the potential for remedy if you mess with the contrast buttons but as of yet, I have not.

I have not used the USB stick or the audio input. Not expecting much when I get around to it.

Again, overall I like this head unit, the complaints are small things you would think could be easily fixed in the 504 model.

PRESETS PRESETS PRESETS, how hard can that be ;)

and again…..

PLEASE GIVE ME 6×6 PRESETS, I have way more than 6 favorite channels = )

It’s an OK tuner, but …

I can’t see the display in the daylight, or even very well at night. The multi-color display options are a joke without some sort of brightness settings.

Switching between input sources is awkward at best, and the cheap-feeling toggles (joy sticks) on the two main knobs are awful. I’m afraid they’ll break soon. And while on the road, I’m always pressing, only to get the wrong outcome because of a bump or slop in the controls.

I also installed a Kenwood mated HD radio tuner, which works OK. But the facade presets are limited and all the buttons (on a double DIN) are way too small. I appreciate the large, multi-line text display (provided at the expense of bigger buttons), but because I can’t read it, it’s a waste of real estate.

Adjusting sound settings (treble/base/fader) are nearly impossible without stopping beside the road. Perhaps I listen to enough different streams that it’s a problem for only me, but this is exasperating. Too much bass rumble in a talk track. Too little bass in a great song.

I have an iPod that I connect via USB. The “Kenwood” native controls are abysmal. I unplug the iPod to use its controls to make my iPod selections, then plug it back in to play.

Oh, as for tailoring the sound for one’s cabin… It’s a freaking car! How much stereo separation, signal to noise dampening, etc. should I expect over the road noise and less-than-optimal speaker placement?

I’ve shopped with this vendor for years, and have always received good advise and great service. Returning this (I should have) was a hassle because I’d have to tear out my dash again and give up the integrated HD and iPod cable. My sales rep didn’t mention the dim display. If he had, I would have passed. Because I replaced a small-button single DIN Sony head mostly for ergonomic reasons.

Word of advice: check out units like this in a hands-on store and think about things beyond sound and watts!

I really like this head unit but there are two things I would want to have changed:

-Text Illumination… while it’s fine at night and on some cloudy/rainy days, there are times it is literally un-readable during the daytime, and I have 20% tint even. Inverted on blue usually works ok for me but red is impossible to see unless it’s night. Everyone else is right about this but I don’t regret purchasing this unit regardless.

-Remote Control backlit… don’t get me wrong, I’m happy that this unit came with a remote to begin with but being I drive a lot at night, it’s hard to see the remote keys and would have been nice if they lit up like some receiver remote controls I have at home. As much light actions that are going on the unit itself, one would think the remote would match up and at very least illuminate. Kenwood take note!

Things I really like about this unit:

-Customized intro text.. I like that I can put in my name, or whatever else I want, when the stereo boots up. I have mine set to say my cars model name and make.

-Auto color changing while listening to music. I thought I would like the color changes synced do the music but they flash so much at night it’s like being at a rave in your car and that’s not the sort of distraction I want while driving. The fluid, slow changing colors by itself is perfectly fine though and it’s way more customizable than I will probably bother with but at least the options are there.

Overall:

The CD player itself is fine. It’s not as solid as some of those DVD players lasers that can magically read through cracked CD’s like their minty fresh but it doesn’t seem to have too much of a problem reading medium scratched discs. You probably won’t be using the CD mech much itself anyways since the front USB is so easy to just load up mp3s on your flash drive. I didn’t think I would use it as much as I do but it’s probably the number one way I listen to music now.

Sound is pretty good but without my subwoofer setup, you can hardly tell it’s pumping out any bass. I’m not sure I can blame this unit on that as my speakers are old but when cranked up the sound emitting is very crisp and bright with the only thing missing some real bass. (which has been resolved since I’ve purchased a Fusion Reactor Bass Setup). I’m guessing Kenwood expected the end-user to have or own a subwoofer setup to take care of the bass factor. I checked to see if LOUD was on, and it was… but it doesn’t seem like it made much of a difference, if any.

Menu/Controls/Etc. There are a lot and it does take some time to get used to and has it’s learning curve so to speak. I don’t mind that it takes a few menus to get into the bass/treble/mid as I don’t really see a reason to change it that often… besides, there seems to be plenty of customizable ways to change the sound, just would take some time and tinkering to adjust perfectly if you wish to do so. Setting up the time and date was kind of a pain but since it’s only a one time job, unless your battery is removed or dies, it’s not really a big deal.

I’ve had this unit for almost 5 months now and use it daily. There are times you get to the point of “I’m just going to pull over so I can see which song I can scan to on this 100+ mp3 CD I just made so I don’t wreck since I can’t see the text AT ALL.” moments… but then you smile the other times when you actually can see the text or at night when the lights are all ago.

If I had the choice of buying another unit as of today, I doubt I would. I’m happy with this Kenwood and it’s taken a long time for me to find a really nice double-din like this with all the features it offers (ext. bluetooth and xm), both which I plan on getting later in the year.

I was looking for something simple, a lightweight word processor with a standard-sized keyboard and modest sized cloak. For this tag this has worked out perfectly for me. I’m mildly annoyed by the touchpad’s sensitivity, but otherwise it’s done everything I’ve asked of it. Would win again and recommend to friends.

I own 2 of these because the first one was so good. Besides being able to play anything well (CD, SACD, DVD), the amplifier section generates a clean, cool 23W into 4 ohms, enough to drive the included speakers to very high levels, the baby speakers are fantastically good, the microfibre woofer-midrange really works. Give the speakers 100 hours or more to break in, because they are light, you may want to weight them down. I listen only to classical music and I switched to these speakers from Epos 11’s, for those who know, I cannot say more about the quality. Just listened to Water Lily Acoustics’ SACD of Shostakovich 7 from St Petersburg. All I can say is “wow”. But Boulez and Cleveland doing Debussy from 1992 on good old PCM sounds almost as good. Who would have thought Onkyo could produce such a great miniature.

I got this system in 4/07 – and it worked fine for 3 or 4 weeks. Then, it began turning itself off in the middle of DVD’s or even iPod playback, resetting the clock/time and all other settings. At its worst, it would turn off about every 8 to 10 minutes. It spent over 6 weeks in the repair shop under warranty service (about 1/3 of the time that I’ve owned it), and within 20 minutes of getting it back home, it had the same exact problem. I placed several calls to Onkyo, spent about 20-30 minutes on hold with each call, spoke with people named Don, Ray, and Felicia in their Parts & Service department, and the universal response was to continue to bring it back to the shop, despite the fact that it’s a brand new system. In the end, I was told that Onkyo’s policy is to repair it approximately 3 times before they will consider an item exchange. Considering that it nearly never worked properly, that it’s been in repair for over 1-1/2 months, and that Onkyo thinks this is acceptable, seems unreasonable. The system, if it worked, would be great – but it doesn’t, and the “customer service” was among the most uncaring experiences I’ve had. It seems that Onkyo cares more about its own convenience than the satisfaction of its customers.

You really can’t compare this system to more expensive two speaker systems. For one the price is nearly a quarter of them.

However this system fits a very nice nitch. It offers excellent sound quality for a smaller space. And it will play just about anything that comes on a disc. If you don’t need a lot of power or 5.1 surround, but you’re looking for a quality system this will fit your needs.

After checking out the Yakima website I selected this cargo box, apparently suitable for the Subaru Outback, but no, it’s too long, the hatch scrapes on the box, damaging the car’s paintwork, even though the cargo box is mounted as far forward as possible. The cost of shipping prohibits returning this massive cargo box. Aside from being too long the cargo box seems to work well, and is quick and easy to remove and install. If you have an Outack the skybox 16 might be a better option.

Shipped fast and is a great buy for the money. saved over 200 buying here. The skybox locks down on my stock GMC Yukon rack easily and is very secure. opens smooth and is pretty sturdy compared to some of the older boxes Ive used in the past. heading out this week on a road trip, but so far very happy with this purchase. fits my 6′8″ surfboard just barely at an angle, but it fits and that is the important part. Great features and like I said for the money great buy!

the skybox arrived quickly and was installed in less than 5mn. It’s amazing how much stuff can be put in it. It is robust, silent (even at 70+ mph), and I didn’t feel any drag or loss of stability with transverse winds. I really like the net and carpet that came with it as they are really useful to maintain kids toys in place, or my climbing gear.

I would recommend it again and again!

I use these on my commute- <2 hours a day and treat them gingerly, like the expensive, easily breakable items they are.

I’m now going on my 2nd pair and 3rd cable set.

In about 3-4 months you’ll notice that one of your channels has lost all or most of its volume.

Then when you continue to use it, you’ll notice that the sound completely cuts out between steps as you’re walking.

Eventually, nothing brings the sound back and you pay $20 for a new cord. Disconnecting and then reconnecting the cable to the buds will not do anything.

The problem is that the area where the jack transitions to the cord (the strain-releaf) is VERY WEAK and eventually the wire breaks inside. On my next cable (currently awaiting its arrival), I’ll use some heat-shrink in that area to try and bolster it, but for $400, why am I engineering a fix?

I also have a coworker whose first pair broke where the bud meets the shapeable wire that goes over your ears. I’m sure this will eventually happen to me and then I’ll no longer buy anything from this company.

My $100 Shures Shure E2c Sound Isolating Earphones are just about as good, isolate about the same and I can buy 4 of them for the cost of one of these.

Also- if you want a GOOD seal, you need to get the replacement (or 3rd party) foam tips. The foam tips that came with both of my pairs was not the same, and inferior to, the replacements.

I upgraded to these from a pair of $100 Shure earbuds. The sound quality improvement was amazing, they sound awesome. The clarity is amazing, and it brings to light many musical details that I had never heard before. I immediately re-listened to many of my favorite albums and heard them in a whole new light.

However, it takes a few swaps of the included eartips to find the right fit, and they have never given me quite as good of a fit as the Shures did. They also stick straight outwards from your ears, whereas the Shures fit up into your ears. This means that they can be a bit uncomfortable when trying to rest the side of your head against something.

I’ve owned these for approximately two years now, and use them almost every day, whether while at the gym, at work, or while traveling (make sure to look for cars before crossing the street, you can’t hear them coming!). They have broken twice in that time, once due to getting caught on something, and once with the buds themselves splitting apart and the wires snapping, but both times UE’s customer service was extremely helpful and replaced them under warranty very quickly.

If I were to break these again now that the warranty period has expired, I would definietly miss them, but I would also take a very hard look at the comparably priced Shures before replacing them.

First, let me mention that i’ve tried earphones out in the past and found them to be extremely uncomfortable in most cases. The Bose earphones are comfortable, but they don’t go very far in your ear. The Shure E3C didn’t sound good and they hurt so much they were unusable. After that experience I skipped out on earphones for a long time.

For the past few years i’ve been trying and using many different headphones. My favorite of the last year has been the AKG 701. They’re huge and really need a good headphone amp. Don’t laugh, but my main source of audio is an ipod touch using a headphone amp and Lossless audio. WAV format or Apple Lossless. If it’s MP3, it’s 320kbps.

I wanted to downsize my setup a bit for some uses, so I needed something smaller that could work well without a headphone amp.

Did maybe two days of research and found these and was shocked at how many good reviews on Amazon there was for these (the old listing). That’s not very common with earphones it seems. It was a hard decision to go with these over a similar Shure model. The size of these ALMOST made me not get them. Please don’t let the size keep you from getting them. It’s not a problem. The other Shure model also seemed to have more Bass (according to reviews). That’s a negative for me. I don’t like any extra bass usually. That’s one reason I love the AKG 701’s. They have a perfect balance of everything.

Ok, with that out of the way I bought these and immediately found that even the smallest ear piece was too large and hurt my ears after just a few minutes of use. I’m not really a small person, but I was surprised that the small ear piece was a tight fit. Sony earbuds come with a small sized one that would work perfect, but I didn’t want to risk it.

I tried the (old, not Comply) foam piece and it was defective! The foam was not glued on properly to the plastic insert. Imagine if I did not notice this! I’d be prying that thing out with tweezers perhaps. UPDATE: Ultimate Ears now includes Comply Foam inserts. Those things are the best! ZERO pain at all EVER. Not once in a year. Previously they were a separate purchase.

Be sure that when you use these to make sure the wire goes on TOP and back around the ear! It’s a bit different than other earphones. They have a video on their website of how to insert them properly. It actually helps! Bring them from back behind the ear FIRST.

The nice thing about these is that they feel like an earbud with the ear clip. The wire that goes above and around your ear is really stiff and kind of keeps the earbuds in your ear.

I’m not good at describing the sound, but with earphones or headphones it’s best to pick something that sounds good to YOU. Many times i’ve picked up headphones based on suggestions and they just didn’t have my preferred sound. They either had too much bass or were too bright or had too much coloration. To me the sound from these just sounds perfect. Not to sound corny, but the sound is pleasing to the ears and there’s not too much of anything at all. Perfect everything. To me, the sound is almost similar to that of the AKG 701, which is probably around the same price. With these those you really feel like your right there in the studio. I can’t say that about any other headphone/earphone. Not even Grado stuff.

If your wondering what else i’ve tried before getting these. I’ve owned Sennheiser HD-555’s, 580s and 650’s. Beyerdynamic DT-990s, Grado SR-60, Grado 325i, AKG 701 and lots of other’s.

For portable use SR-60’s are good for some types of music, but I don’t like the design, although it was my preferred headphone for portable players maybe.

AKG 701 was without a doubt my favorite headphone. Some may not like them, but it’s my preferred type of sound. Second favorite were the Beyers of course.

Purchased the Grado 325i two months before the Ultimate Ears and thought they were good on some music, but terrible on others. They stress my ears out too much and I can’t wear them for more than an hour. I think there can be such a thing as too much detail!

So now these are my new current main earphone/headphone. Believe it or not they can be used on an Ipod or Sansa View without a headphone amp. Of course they will sound better with an amp, but it’s not always needed. Thanks to these new earphones i’ve now converted some of my old CDs that were ripped to mp3 back to WAV or Lossless.

Is the price too high? I don’t think so at all. Never once felt like they were too expensive after using them for a week. I’ve compared them to many other headphones/earphones and they sound just as good as any other similar priced model.

Had the foam insert defect and that isn’t enough to knock off a point. I’ve used these since July of 2008 and the build quality has been perfect. Only a month ago did I realize that the cable is user replaceable. I did not even realize this until I pulled it apart myself and plugged it back in. I seriously think if these ever die, i’ll just replace them with the exact same thing. I like them that much. All music sounds good with these, but i’d like to try a similar Shure model just to compare them. On my new Ipod Touch they sound fine without a headphone amp. Using an amp makes them sound ever better, but it’s not needed. Just a note, if you use a headphone amp with these, don’t use rechargeable batteries. It degrades the sound quality. No lie!

I’m sorry, but as much as i’d like to come up with some more negatives, I can’t. These are very good! Best i’ve tried yet. After hearing these I doubt i’ll ever go back to regular headphones.

UPDATE: After a year i’ve now finally come up with one extremely minor negative. They are a somewhat big. Maybe in a few years UE can do a redesign and find a way to make them smaller. It’s not a big deal.

We have used our new Epson 705HD for ten days and enjoy it, in fact we prefer it to our living room Samsung DLP, although both are excellent performers. Epson is at least half way there in providing input ports and performance. Most viewers appreciate the brightness and contrast and this Epson has plenty of both.

The 705 is very dependent on input source. We use it with an HP Computer running XP Pro, with a Wii, with a Samsung upscaling DVD (HTIB), with a Toshiba DVR, and most often with a side feed off our DISH service, SD processed to a second receiver on Channel 73 over the lowest quality wire.

DISH movies are acceptable, but not spectacular. The 705HD upscales poorly, if at all with out set up, so credits are SD, not sharp. The actual movies are very watchable, ten times better than our previous lower quality projector. My wife is very happy. To get the DISH signal to our Old Victorian attic theater space I spliced off the second feed of our SD DISH receiver. I tune to Channel 73 with the Toshiba DVR, pass the signal on via S-Video to RGB to the standard computer in port on the 705.

Suggestions of how to improve this (short of purchasing a second DISH HD DVR Receiver) please sound off. The 705 recognizes the various inputs and makes it easy to switch. The only danger to equipment in this setup is damage caused by switching off and on in the improper order. BE CAREFUL with this with Epson projectors!!! Have your video sources on before you turn on the projector and reverse out, turn the projector off first.

I have had an Epson business X70 projector destroy several component including my favorite old Sharp VCR and a nifty Radio Shack automatic video source switcher and my now half dead RCA monitor. No help back from Epson (Amazon covered the x70 return, so no cost, but the loss of my equipment seems to be my problem.)

The Wii works fine using the standard video inputs which it comes equipped with.

My HP computer has an upgraded video card which outputs HDMI s-video and DVI. I pass the HDMI to the Samsung HTIB and from there to the 705. Unfortunately that does not pass sound, so I have a separate sound system for the computer which is not as good as the HTIB but clear.

The good news is the near perfection of the computer projected image. On an 8 foot horizontal screen every letter is crisp and clear, rivaling any of my fancy computer monitors. Of course, news videos are lower quality via the computer, but my own material is outstanding.

I plan to hook one of my Macs since the Mac handles DVDs and video so much better than the PC. I make my own DVDs and cannot stand to watch them on the PC side, colors are altered, functionality is reduced.

Tweaking the 705 is easy and worth the time. Our viewing space has some hobby lighting on most of the time, but no sunlight through any windows. Stepping down to the lower output makes very little difference in image quality. The movie option is a bit soft out of the box and the colors a bit drab. Family room works better for my eyes as a departure setting.

The game and dynamic modes are more acceptable than on other projectors I have used. They are brighter without being harsh.

What is needed from Epson:

Better upscaling options. BENQ does this well, Samsung in other formats.

Tuner.

USB direct from computer rather than standard PC port. This is double dumb of Epson, they must not use Macs. This interface is still in the beginning, so users have to have some tech savvy friends and even then be patient.

There are no provisions for my older legacy equipment, not even my weather station.

There is no way to use my video equipment which is FireWire based rather than USB.

There is no high quality sound input, output except as handled by HDMI.

All this said, the 705 is still as good as it gets currently for input source handling. I expect this to change. Conversations with BenQ techs suggest they are improving their HQV … one improvement for me would be to sell that capability to Epson.

I was a home theater shopping spree this weekend. I started the EPSON 705HD. Everything from the specs sounded very attractive, high lumens, high lamp life, 2 year warranty. So I got this for $699 from HH GEGGG, rented Fast and Furious. Setup was easy, when I turned on the projector I was impressed with the Image size it produced almost 200″. Here are the goods and then lots of bads. I played the DVD on sony upscaling DVD player

Good: Screen size, lamp life, warranty.

Bad: Grainy picture, very dull black levels, the image seems to always have a white hue all over it. I have read that these problems are common in LCD prjector.

The next day I curious to compare it with a DLP projector. So I went to best buy to get an Optoma Hd65, it was not in stock, they had few office DLP projectors. I got hold of EP728 (XGA), remember guys the purpose was check to check black levels.

I connected it using DVI to HDMI adaptor. The image size was obviously small, almost 70% of EPSON 705. When I played the Fast and Furious, BOY I WAS IMPRESSSED. The black levels were superb. In the moview mode (where bightness is low and contrast is high), I witnessed movie theater colors. The picture was never grainy.

So guys in conclusion, I am returning both the projectors and ordering Optoma HD65 from Amazon for $650.

I install garage doors, and my impact wrench is my number one weapon. I have owned a 14.4 Milwaukee, 14.4 DeWalt, 18v DeWalt, and now this one. I had to send the Milwaukee back numerous times because of it’s poor build quality. I have had motors die on the DeWalt due to its poor cooling design. There are small plastic fins in the motor which move air and keep the motor cool, and they have broken of on every DeWalt impact I have owned. I have been using the Hitachi for more than 4 months without a problem. I look actually look forward to using it. The battery stays secured to the drill, even after a four five foot fall. I laughed at the little light it comes with at first, but it has come in handy in dark garages. The torque is strong enough to pull the lug nuts of a wheel hub, and the battery life is stellar. One battery will get me through multiple double sized garage door installs. The DeWalt would kill at least too full batteries in only one install. It’s safe to say that one Hitachi lithium-ion batter = 3+ DeWalt NiCads.

Another reviewer has mentioned a bad smell from the motor. All my impacts, drills, saws, and other power tools have gave off burning odor during the break-in of the tool. This is normal.

One other component of the impact which I enjoy is the pin. Unlike the DeWalt, the pin is designed to keep the socket secure when the pin of the impact is in line with the hole of the socket. The socket WILL come off of the impact with a little force unlike the DeWalt. With the DeWalt, the pin had to be compressed with a nail or screw in order to remove the socket.

To sum this review up… Buy the Hitachi.
I am a Hitachi fan converted over from Makita. I use this Hitachi WR18DL 18-volt Cordless Impact Wrench to change flat tires on my 2 construction trailers. This Hitachi takes the drudgery out of changing flat tires.
Now I am also using it instead of my air impact wrench around my shop, etc. etc. NO AIR HOSES NEEDED.
Have had impact wrench for few weeks. It is very light and the battery’s hold charge very well. The work light is a nice option.
Works well to disassemble engine parts etc.

The only possible negative is it has a tough time with wheel nuts. However it really is not rated as high a tork range as a air impact.
Overall meets all my expectations.

My wife is a middle grades teacher and the copiers at her school are always broken are in use by someone else, so we do all her printing and copying at home – LOTS of printing and copying. I really like the speed and the automatic duplexing. We expect to cut our paper cost by 30-40%. We also create a pdf of each assignment/worksheet to upload to her website so students can get any missed assignments. The scanner – scan to file – option allows you to specify pdf file type and is very fast.

The Automatic Document Feed is excellent with no jams so far even with large documents. We also print hall/bathroom passes on business card stock using the single sheet feeder with no jams. So far we have printed about 5,000 pages and have had no real problems. Setting up the network for sharing the printer was very easy. We expect to print about 5,000 pages per month – well under the 25,000 duty clcle. Our previous MFC 8220 is still being used by a colleague after 3 drum replacements – we just wanted the extra speed and auto duplex this machine provided.

The software provided for scanning is easy to use and very versatile. We haven’t used the fax function yet. So far we are very pleased with the speed, auto duplex and scanning features and have had no driver issues using both XP and Vista.

It is a great machine for someone needing a heavy duty networked duplex capable machine.
I owned the 1st gen. of the Brother MFC printer. This is my second Brother MFC. This one is generation 3. My original Brother MFC lasted about 5 years. I hope they worked out the bugs out of this one. It works just as good at the original one but it’s one does 32ppm and have more built in memory. My 1st gen has scanner lock issues and ADF started giving me issues. The high yield toner is TN-650 (8000 pages). It’s expensive toner but it lasts very long for the toner. It’s toner is also bigger than many other printers. Check that out if the price is what you need in features before buying. I was hoping Amazon sold it when I was buying it so I could have purchased it from Amazon.

Pros:
- The best ADF that I have seen for a while.
– Doesn’t jam much.
- Features. I looked at HP, Sharp, Canon, Lexmark, Minolta and can’t find any printer that comes close to the features and abilities of this printer. Too features much to list, read Brother’s website. Even supports Postscript, pdf.
- Legal size glass scanning is a big big plus. Many printer nowadays only does letter size or needs to the document to go thru the ADF (top feeder tray).
- Paper tray can adjust from Letter to Legal size
- fax is just a button away (Save phone number setup).
- Energy Star rated (not like gen 1 where your lights flicker when you turn it on). This issue appears to be fixed.
- DN = Duplex (2 sided printing) and network printing (if you have DHCP, just plug and play, no setup on printer really needed).
- Extremely fast printing (Thinking of replacing my other printers with is one).

Cons:
- Can’t find how to copy 2 sided using Legal sized paper so I have to do 1 page at a time either with the ADF or glasstop.
- The date and time doesn’t save at all and reverts to 1/1/2010 when power is turned off after use. *(fixed with new firmware update)*
- Duplex mode is confusing to use at times. Copying 1 -> 2 is not simple, needs time to read manual.
- Toner pricing for TN-650 is expensive but lasts a long time since it’s bigger than some (good for 6,000 pages). It’s around $83 at Amazon.com (best price also(
- Past experience with customer support is almost null. But all printer companies are similar.
This is my 3rd generation of Brother MFC. I like the convenience of a printer/copier/fax/scanner in one unit. The Brother units are pretty low cost, but are made out of flimsy plastic, so they self-destruct in 3-4 years (planned obsolescence). Also, they need service every 6 months or so, so it’s good to have a warranty service plan. Brother used to have great customer service. No longer. I got my 8480DN set up (it’s a bit faster than the previous generation, uglier, but overall fine, and called Brother, their ONLY phone no. 877-276-8437, and the rep politely explained they don’t handle this model, and switched me to a phone queue with muzak where I sat for 20 minutes until giving up. Called back, same thing. It is just UNACCEPTABLE to release a product in March 2009 and announce in May 2009 that you don’t support it. Grrrr. This is the last Brother that I ever buy. $400 for a soon-to-be useless paperweight – in 6 months or so, it will die, as they all do – but warranty service gives you a refurbished one, so it’s ok … BUT IT’S NOT OK WITH THIS MODEL SINCE THEY DON’T SUPPORT IT!!!) is ridiculous. (I have a small home office, I print about 500-1000 sheets per month on this.)

I will start by saying that I owned this unit’s predecessor (AVX800) so I had something to compare this unit against.

This unit is feature rich and I had high hopes based on my experience with the AVX800. The unit is gorgeous and very sleek with only a few slim buttons on the face. I like the fact that those buttons only light up when you’re about to use them so no night time glare. In my vehicle the unit is a little deeper than the 800 so it protrudes out a little further than I’d like. The remote is simple but doesn’t provide much access to the unit’s menus. Attaching and detaching the face takes a little getting used to but once you figure it out you’ll be good to go.

GUI: The 810’s GUI is decent. The menus are very similar to the older model which I liked. There have been some changes mostly for the better like the ability to scroll through files using a scroll bar like on your computer. You also have the ability to control the unit’s volume with the touch screen volume knob though it takes a little getting used to. Now that I think about it almost all of the buttons on the face of the unit are available on the touch screen now which makes me wonder why the redundancy? The unit has a display option that allows you to show album art which I think is cool.

Sound: This unit sounds great. There is a good EQ built in along with a crossover. All the features you need to tune your stereo to your liking are available. All of these controls are the same from the older model.

Video: The picture is on par with most units of this type. Not impressive but not terrible.

Performance: For some reason this unit is really slow. Most units that read MP3 disks have a slight delay compared to audio CD’s so this was expected. This unit takes it to a level that is almost intolerable. On the 800 I would wait less than 10 seconds for a DVD filled with MP3’s to start playing and that’s all the waiting you’d ever do once it was loaded. On the 810 it’s almost twice as long if not longer. When you go into the list view you have to wait, once you start scrolling you have to wait all you do on this unit is wait. What’s even worse is the performance from a USB source. I have an external HDD that I wanted to use with this unit. Upon connection of the HDD be prepared to wait for almost a minute or more before anything starts playing. Now I’m having a problem getting the unit to read new files that I’ve add to my HDD. There isn’t any firmware support from JVC so I doubt anything will be done about the performance issues.

Overall: I think the unit is loaded with features that you’ll enjoy if you don’t mind waiting for them. If it performed as well as the older model I’d be really happy. I thought I’d be able to tolerate the slow loading times but it’s starting to get old and I’m considering going with something else.

After researching a radio for months I finally decided on this one and am very glad I did. It has everything I was looking for and works perfectly. I was very interested in its ability to play videos for my two kids in the back. It works great. As this is my first aftermarket stereo in quite a few years I was pleasantly surprised with it. I read the other reviews that said it is a bit slow at loading movies and songs through the USB cable but I have not found it to be abnormally slow. For those that are interested I am using a 500gb WD passport (its a portable hard drive). The radio did not initially recognize the hard drive and I kept getting an error that it couldnt read that type of device or something. After a bit of research I realized that the hard drive was in the wrong format. Again, for those interested your USB mass storage devices need to be in a FAT format, NOT NTFS!!! So I partitioned my portable hard drive into FAT32 format and gave it 30gigs – loaded a bunch of .avi full length movies (which work perfectly), and a bunch of music. All work great. I plug it in and it only takes a few seconds for the JVC to recognize it and show everything on there. After I select a song it starts playing almost immediately, the videos take an extra couple of seconds but nothing unusual. As far as the foldering system works – On my portable hard drive I made one folder named Movies and another folder named Music. Within the Movies folder I put all my movies. Within the Music folder I have a separate folder for each artist and within each of those artsits’ folders I have multiple songs for that artist. When the list comes up on the radio with everything that is on the hard drive I get a folder named Movies and all the other folders of the individual artists. In a nutshell the JVC will only display the lowest folder – it will not display parent folders of folders (I hope that makes sense to you).
I have not tried the SD card yet because I see no need for it so I cant comment on it.
The video out is great. I have a splitter and installed two 7″ pyle LCD screens in the headrests for my kids to watch. They love it.
Contrary to what some online sites said, the AVX810 DOES have a separate rear view camera video input.
As far as the parking brake bypass for video goes. I watched the youtube video online on how to bypass it and it worked perfectly. All you have to do is take the green (light green-ish) wire coming out of the back of the radio and connect it to ground (if you dont know what that means then you shouldnt be installing the radio by yourself anyway).
Installation was a breeze. It fits almost perfect into my 2000 4runner – I didnt need any kind of dash kit, just the wiring kit. I did however have to slightly sand down/grind down a very small portion of the plastic from the car that goes around the faceplate because it all so slightly would rub on the plastic surround when opening and closing (not a big deal).
Tuner works great, interface is nice, I really like being able to choose between like 10 different colors and 5 different themes. I would have liked to be able to upload my own pictures for the background, but thats ok because it would probably be difficult to see the text on the screen.
Controller works fine, but who actually uses that, maybe the kids from the back when they get older.
This deck is also perfect if you have an aftermarket system in your car due to the equalizer, crossover and preamp outputs and subwoofer level.
Sound is great, video is great for a 7″ screen. It is not an HD screen so dont try to compare it to your 40″ 1080p Sony LCD playing a bluray – just dont go there, video is great.
I only have one complaint and it is more of a physical limitation due to the design of the radio and the car. I have a 2000 4runner, automatic with 4WD. The automatic shifter is in between the driver and passenger seat and with it in P (park, which is all the way forward towards the radio) there is not enough room for the video screen to slide down to 1) detach the screen, or 2) put in a disk.

Overall this is the best radio I have ever owned. I paid about $375 for it (10/2009) and it is worth every penny. Sound, video, interface, options, everything is what is should be.
- The screen inclines in several levels, to improve the vision of video.
- installation perfect in vehicles toyota with spaces of 2 DIM, without needing adapter.
- great strength watt and Quality of sound.
- with the device usb reads video, image and music.
- with memory card SD only reads image and music.
