This is a nice sampling of the better Cosby episodes. I liked the reveal, but didn’t want to recall and view entire season sets. This plot has most of the episodes that I remember from the series bustle. Don’t demand noble narrate quality, but it looks at least as ample as the unusual broadcasts. There are no bonuses. Episodes are in broadcast order. For example, the first is from season 1, then you score one or two from each of the seasons that followed, in chronological order.

I really appreciate “The Cosby Indicate.” Like millions of other families, every Thursday night when this came on, my family and I would derive around the TV and survey it.

Why is “The Cosby Expose” so groundbreaking?

It is really the first factual depiction of an African-American family. Prior to “The Cosby Indicate,” African-American sitcoms always had the buffoon character with unrealistic storylines. But “The Cosby Reveal” refused to pander to the lowest celebrated denominator. And by doing so they became the Number One Sitcom in the country. “The Cosby Display” said that the dusky family was no different from the white family or the Asian-American family or the Latin-American family. Maybe the main message of “The Cosby Demonstrate” was that in the extinguish we all have the same problems and the same goals.

It’s really hard to say who my common character is on “The Cosby Present.” The entire cast is so likeable. Watching them was like watching feeble friends. If I had to lift, of course first would be Dr. Huxtable (played by the Cos, of course.) Because even when the kids did something deplorable he was beautiful but very comic. And, coming in at a finish second is Denise (Lilakoi Moon, more commonly known as Lisa Bonet.) Denise was always such a free spirit. And, of course I adored Mrs. Huxtable (Phylicia Rashâd.) Didn’t everyone wish they had a mom like her?

I recomend picking up Dr. Cosby’s latest book, Arrive On People: On the Path from Victims to Victors.

There was always something about “The Prowler” that made it stand out among the other 80’s slashers. It’s a fun and scary movie that features some of F/X maestro Tom Savini’s most hideous work. The microscopic town setting, the sprawling mansion and dorm, the innovative backstory all originate a expansive atmosphere. The proper menacing figure of the Prowler himself is objective down suitable creepy, and the modern kills inviting a pitchfork, a bayonette and other lively instruments will support dismay fans cheerful. The DVD treatment is astounding, and I really enjoyed Tom Savini’s tedious the scenes eye at some of the ample effects. If you are a fan of the fear genre then this movie is a must sight. The only two drawbacks to the film; the Prowler looks menacing, but he doesn’t instill that sense of panic Jason or Michael posess. And the musical bag is kind of flat, not really helping to obtain suspense, unprejudiced a trilling violin that kind of gets in the blueprint. But those two minor complaints shouldn’t support you from enjoying a broad old-school slasher. And by the arrangement….why do so many people who have reviewed this movie feel the need to give away the entire yarn? I mean if you are not clear what “The Prowler” is about…fair view at the DVD camouflage art….there aren’t too many folks out there that will judge this is a romantic comedy!! If you aren’t familiar with this movie, don’t read further reviews some of which fill quite a few spoilers!

Joseph Zito’s relentlessly cruel THE PROWLER is one of the very few memorable films to have emerged from the tremendous wasteland of 80’s era slasher cycle crud. Like THE BURNING and MY BLOODY VALENTINE, THE PROWLER tells an undeniably cliche ridden memoir but compensates with memorable characters, decent production values, a surprisingly effective musical net and, of course, some of the most inventive and grotesquely realistic destroy sequences in the genre. In fact, this may very well be the most violent movie of its ilk ever made. Despite its ferocious gore, this film somehow managed to pick up an uncensored theatrical release (with an obviously bogus “R” rating) .

While there are no dependable surprises on hand for the dread aficionado, THE PROWLER is so slickly filmed by sincere craftsmen that it naturally has instant appeal as one of the only competently directed and watchable movies of its kind. If there is such a thing as a “classic” slasher, THE PROWLER is surely one.

The Blue Underground DVD is a highly recommended seize for fans of this terrific minute gorefest. The film is presented in widescreen format (1.85:1) in a nice, brilliant transfer, looking considerable better than it ever has before. Disc extras include trailers, a poster/stills gallery and a fun but brief behind-the-scenes videotaped sight at Tom Savini’s awesome makeup effects. Best bonus of all is an occasionally raucous audio commentary by Savini and director Joseph Zito, in which the two apparent friends allotment informative and moving tidbits about the film’s often chaotic production.

Season Three of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS represents one of the most though-provoking attempts ever to preserve a large, but lightly watched series alive. After Season One the series was renewed primarily based on the great well-known acclaim the present received along with its intensely dedicated, though shrimp (though I would like to believe growing) fan spoiled. I honestly concept that after Season One it was going to sweep the Emmys, garnering a host of awards that would propel it to the next tier in public consciousness, mighty like what happened to another series that debuted in the descend of 2006, 30 ROCK. For some unfathomable reason it did not receive a single major Emmy nomination. It did go on, however, to catch what have near to be the three most well-behaved indicators of quality TV. It won a Peabody award, something that most Emmy winners never receive. It won Salon’s annual Buffy award, given to the best prove neglected by the Emmys (named after the greatest TV series never to receive Emmy attention) . And it was named one of the ten best shows on TV by the American Film Institute. Fans of the note watched in alarm as clearly unfriendly shows like BOSTON Lawful, GREY’S ANATOMY, HOUSE M.D., and HEROES got recognition that continued to dash.

Still, fans hoped that Season Two would peep an increased audience part. NBC hoped that keen it to Friday night (the night that most people assumed it was airing) would attend. It didn’t and its ratings slipped further. Normally a reveal with the kind of ratings FNL had would simply have been cancelled. Mighty to NBC’s credit, they decided to capture novel steps to build the series. They arranged with DirecTV to have that network air the thirteen episodes of Season Three in the topple of 2008 (when many of us were lucky enough to stare it), with NBC showing it in the winter and spring of 2009. According to some rumors, DirecTV was blissful with the results and is keen in continuing with another season of the point to. I’ve seen no reports on how NBC is thinking (though the head of programming for NBC Universal did, in response to a quiz about FNL’s chances for a Season Four, said that there would continue to be a dwelling on the NBC schedule for quality shows with a smaller audience section) . In a current interview FNL creator and executive producer Peter Berg said that the decision to continue could be as distinguished their decision as the networks. Suffice it to say that at this point it isn’t at all certain that there will be a Season Four and possibly objective because Berg and present runner Jason Katims may settle not to continue.

The reason for Season Four being in doubt is very easy to study. There is a major creative ask about where to catch the series in a fourth season. Many of the key characters on the expose for the past three seasons have graduated. At the very least, Tyra, Riggins, Lyla, and Matt are out of high school. There is debate about whether or not Landry is a senior or junior. Spoiler alert! At the demolish of Season Three it appears that those four are going to four different schools, Tyra to University of Texas (where Landry could certainly go if he is a senior), Riggins to the fictitious San Antonio Space, and Lyla to Vanderbilt, while Matt’s college plans are gloomy. Coach Taylor’s plans were not in granite, though he was clearly confronted with a very different location if the prove continues. Apart from Julie (and possibly Landry, if he is indeed a junior), there are no established high school characters continuing on the point to and no high school football players. There are three major possibilities. One is to originate from scratch with Coach Taylor at the heart of things and introduce a host of novel characters. A second is to introduce unusual high school players for Coach Taylor while continuing to follow the characters we’ve near to fancy over the past three years. This would be especially easy in Tyra’s case (and possibly in Landry’s if he is a senior) since she is attending UT and the reveal is actually filmed in Austin. The third possibility is to have Coach Taylor pick a coaching job at, say, San Antonio Site, where Riggins already is, and perhaps regain a scheme to procure Matt, Landry, Tyra, and Lyla all to go there for whatever reason they can consider up. A fourth possibility would be for the explain to say goodbye to Riggins, Tyra, Matt, Lyla, and possibly Landry in a series of episodes like they did in Season Three with Wreck and Jason. One thing is clear: if they have a Season Four, it will be utterly unlike the first three seasons of the exhibit.

Season Three of FNL unbiased might be my approved so far. I loved Season One, continued to relish the reveal even with some iffy moments (along with several blooming ones) in Season Two, but I was unprejudiced blown away by Season Three. There were not merely no primitive episodes in Season Three, but few extinct moments. The plan I expressed my worship for FNL to a friend is that while BATTLESTAR GALACTICA is my popular expose on TV and probably has 20 episodes that I reflect are better than the best episode of FNL, BSG also probably has 20 episodes worse than the weakest episode of FNL. FNL is objective an absurdly consistent exhibit. It may not have BSG’s highpoints, but neither does it have its lowpoints. [There are, btw, several absorbing connections between BSG and FNL. The creator of FNL, Peter Berg, directed the pilot of BSG creator Ron Moore's novel series VIRTUALITY, while FNL producer and frequent director Jeffrey Reiner directed the movie CAPRICA, which also serves as the pilot for the BSG prequel by the same name. There are also some stylistic similarities. Both are shot with hand held cameras, with the cameras playing to the actors rather than the actors to the cameras. Both feature rich and enormously talented casts. And then there are the convoluted connections. BSG executive producer David Eick worked on HERCULES, which was created by Acquire Tappert. FNL producer John Cameron not only went to high school with Tappert and did some work on HERCULES and XENA, but Tappert married a Cylon, none other than D'Anna Biers aka Lucy Lawless.]

Season Three is the senior year of many of the major characters. The football arc centers on these players’ last hurrah, the attempt to go to status one last time, and getting prepared to travel on. Matt’s residence is complicated by the presence of an enormously talented freshman quarterback who is clearly more gifted than he is. Riggins takes on unique responsibilities and begins to grow up both on and off the field. And the team manages to overachieve and do things it clearly should not be respectable of. The final game the seniors play is easily the football highlight of the series. The last scene is clearly the most poetic.

Off the field the major stories involve the rekindling of Matt and Julie’s romance, which becomes one of the most realistic and sweetest relationships one can imagine. Matt struggles not only with his changing role on the football team, but his grandmother’s decaying mental area, which indirectly leads to reestablishing a relationship with his mother. Tyra’s tale is especially curious in Season Three. If in Season One she only gradually started to do battle with her believe uncouth self-expectations and in Season Two she fought hard to be more than the person everyone expected her to be, in Season Three he has to overcome additional obstacles to finding a more fulfilling life. She has to overcome a modern guidance counselor who doesn’t own in her like Tami Taylor did, the temptation of an older and uncertain rodeo star boyfriend, and her contain indecent self-esteem. The show’s penultimate episode, in which she struggles to write her college application letter, contains one of the very finest moments in the entire series, as she finally finds the words to enlighten what going to college truly represents, namely, “The possibility that things are going to change.” And you have to fancy a point to that has as one of the most triumphant moments a girl delighted in getting her college acceptance letter.

For the Taylors, life is quite different, as Tami takes on her unusual dwelling as Dillon High School’s original well-known. Eric not only has to form difficult decisions regarding his quarterback but has to battle with that quarterback’s father, who is overbearing to the point of being abusive (the mother, by the scheme, is nicely played by Janine Turner, who fans of NORTHERN EXPOSURE will remember affectionately as Maggie O’Connell) . Buddy Garrity struggles with a series of dreadful decisions while Lyla is in a full-blown relationship with Tim Riggins. Meanwhile, Tim’s brother Billy and Tyra’s sister Mindy catch engaged, which leads to the catch of quite possibly the most hysterically evil wedding dress in the history of network television.

One thing that is sometimes overlooked is how brilliantly executed the exhibit is. People ignorant of film technique complain about the photography. It is all done with hand held cameras. The actors memorize their scripts and then are allowed to more or less ad lib along the direction of the script. No scenes are blocked, so that the actors are performing their actions in spontaneous fashion. They utilize a three camera device so that even if they do only one buy of a scene, they can edit the final version from different angles (survey carefully at the scene in the episode “The Giving Tree” where Matt reluctantly goes to the patio where Coach Taylor is cleaning the grill and pay attention to where the cameras are during their conversation; this degree of technique runs throughout the series) .

I hope there is a Season Four. Although I can’t quite imagine how the series would continue, I’m fascinated to glimpse how they would do so. For three years this has been a reveal that has done almost no snide (except for the downhearted killing in early Season Two) . It has been one of the best series ever focused on the lower middle class. As a product of the lower middle class myself, I treasure seeing characters that are not privileged or wealthy or where all the parents are lawyers and corporate executives. I like that the closest thing to a rich guy on the note is the owner of a car dealership. I like that Tyra drives the same faded horrible truck for all three seasons. Average, everyday folk have never, ever been so well served on television.

But if there is not a Season Four, the final episodes aid as a perfect conclusion to one of the most heartbreakingly elegant shows in the history of American television. Even if there is not another season, this explain will live on. I’ve already watched the entire series three times and I fully inquire that I’ll contemplate it two or three more times in my lifetime. Shows like this are what quality television is all about.

I was heartbroken when it was cancelled and became a broad fan of directv when they picked it up for season 3…BUT I impartial read on [...] (which is linked to Amazon) that they are releasing only the shortened/edited NBC season 3 – not the stout episodes aired on directv’s Channel 101. AND changing the music for the dvds.

Basically, the fans and directv saved this expose – and NBC is going to shaft the fans-AGAIN- by releasing shortened episodes instead of fat directv episodes. I’m SOOOOOOOOOOOOO Indignant. How considerable more could it really cost to release the entire episodes? And something has to be done to negotiate employ of the music up front because fans of all shows usually savor the music that was originally chosen by the unique creative forces slow the prove – rather than after the fact, haphazard changing the music to put money. If you are willing to exercise $30 on season 3 (or win it on sale) – you would probably utilize $40 objective as easily to come by the plump episodes with the valid music.

What a racket! I usually detest 1 star reviews that have nothing to do with the demonstrate – but the blueprint it was released(like a volume 1 etc. impartial to perform money) but when the arrangement it is being released means you have no access to the elephantine episodes on dvd-I consider it deserves 1 star because it is sing related. At least with a volume 1, they may be squeezing you for money but you know you have the option to purchase volume 2 and glean the entire season. This plot, you objective score edited episodes – with no hope of beefy episodes.

By the contrivance, it also said there would be a season 4&5 – YAHOO!!

When it comes to Euro Crime films The Titanic Racket comes at top of the game. Of course what can you interrogate from the mountainous Euro Crime director Enzo G. Castellari and the ever likeable Fabio Testi.

Testi plays a rough police officer that is getting sick and tired of the gang protection racket going on in a itsy-bitsy Italian town. Gangs are using violence and destruction to score cramped business owners to pay. When Testi goes beyond the law to do the Racketeers away, he gets fired and then turns vigilante.

This is a violent, gritty film corpulent of amazing camera work and shiny anti-hero like characters. Testi here comes off looking like a good bad***. The uncut version provided here by Blue-Underground Entertainment does have some harsh scences such as two brutal rape sequences so be forwarned.

Coming from a seasoned Euro Crime fan…..you can’t procure great better than this. There’s enough tough guy posturing, icy camera shots and action to originate any fan of Italian cinema pleased.

From the hide you’d mediate this flick was about Fabio Testi getting fed up with some noisy neighbors, but that’s not it. The “colossal racket” is one of those protection racket schemes where a bunch of weasley turds threaten store owners to pay dues or have their business trashed. Fabio’s a cop(of course) who’s been after these guys for awhile, but anybody that watches action flicks knows that trying to bring criminals to justice through just means never works. Whenever Fabio thinks he’s got these guys, they manage to regain off on some technicality or some other b.s. Once he starts using tactics that go outside the law, he’s fired of course. Once fired, he decides to go Bronson and assembles an A-Team-like group that consists of some of the racket’s past victims. One abominable guy is a shop owner who was driven nearly insane by the rape and suicide of his daughter(A very genuine performance from this guy! His daughter looks 12!! Aren’t there laws about sex scenes entertaining minors? ) . Another sorrowful dude witnesses the rape and execute(by fire) of his wife coz he had killed a few of the racket members and they settle to retaliate. The last act of the film is the best where this group gets together and plans a tall assault on the racket. For those familiar with these kinds of films(especially Castellari’s work), this one should be a treat. Not as respectable as Street Law, but noteworthy better than the Heroin Busters. Those ragged to Hollywood’s version of an action film will unbiased reflect it’s unimaginative and cheesy. Fabio Testi is always a strong looking leading man, and able to carry a film even if he isn’t the best actor in the world. The film definitely has it’s corniness due to the year and country it was made in. One particularly amusing scene is the last shot in the film that reminds me of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. After Fabio emerges victorious(and that’s not a spoiler. Like you didn’t know he would), for no particular reason he starts yelling and beating a car(at least I contemplate it’s a car, you can’t quite explain coz of the camera angle) with the butt of his shotgun, and the film freezes on Fabio’s manic and comic facial expression as the credits originate to role. This is the stuff suitable flix are made of. Mindless crimefighting fun-Italian style!!

I went into Peter Greenaway’s “The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover” with blinders on. I had absolutely no conception what to put a question to as the movie started, none whatsoever. I slightly suspected the director made “art” films due to a faint recollection of a discussion I saw on a bulletin board years ago, but that was all I could remember. Heck, I opinion Uma Thurman was in this film for some reason! Obviously, this was my first experience with Greenaway, a director I have since learned is renowned for creating disturbing films designed to upset audiences. I’ll bet this masterpiece had arty types fleeing for the doors! Boy, I wish I’d seen this in an art house when it came out. I’m archaic to seeing films dealing with subject matter far worse than this one, but viewers who employ their time watching pictures about relationships and strolls through a park on a sunny day aren’t. Yes, Greenaway’s film deals with abhorrent themes expressed in undeniably grotesque forms. Yes, the represent has terrifying scenes of violence. Yes, relationships of a decidedly revealing nature play a tall share in the situation. What did you ask from a NC-17 rated represent? Don’t worry-you can handle it. Actually, you’ll probably be blissful that you sat through it because this is a great movie.

“The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover” starts on a particularly memorable ticket. Immense time gangster and thief Albert Spica (Michael Gambon), his wife Georgina (Helen Mirren), and his entourage pull up to the support door of a savor restaurant speed by the wonderful French chef Richard Borst (Richard Bohringer), ready for a night of heavenly dining and disagreeable behavior. Spica is a eminent brute, a burly, sadistic thug who enjoys tormenting everyone around him, especially his wife Georgina. Greenaway sets the tone immediately by having a pack of dogs snap and stutter outside the restaurant as Spica presides over the humiliation of an underling. The awful behavior continues inside as Spica and his miscreants throw food, insult the staff and fellow customers, and generally compose fools out of themselves. Night after night, Spica and his band of perilous ruffians return to the restaurant, tormenting Borst and his staff as the restaurant’s business drains away. No one, it seems, wants to expend an evening eating next to a guy like Spica.

One gentleman seems relatively unbothered by the ruckus a couple of tables over. Michael (Alan Howard), a scholarly looking librarian who always reads a book while he eats, simply ignores Spica’s loud theatrics. When he makes study contact with the graceful Georgina, however, sparks cruise. Within minutes the two are in the bathroom madly pawing away at each other. The clandestine affair continues night after night, with both Michael and Georgina continually aware that Albert Spica or one of his goons could peruse the tryst at any moment. Eventually, the staff of the restaurant plays a allotment in helping the two lovebirds meet, allowing them to utilize the nooks and crannies in the cavernous kitchen and deflecting any suspicions posed by Albert. Georgina uses Michael as a respite from her vicious husband, a chance to elope his evil behaviors if even for a few precious minutes. Spica’s wife soon finds the strength to waft from Albert, racy in with Michael in his library. The thuggish Albert flies into a rage over his wife’s disappearance. It’s not that he cares for her in any diagram (he definitely doesn’t), but his massive ego cannot stand the view of her being with another man. Spica tracks down Michael and has him murdered by stuffing pages from a book about the French Revolution down his throat. The conclusion to the film is one of the most memorable in fresh film history.

After I watched Greenaway’s film, I looked a few things up. Some brilliant film critics in England examine this narrate as a critique of the Thatcher years, with Spica standing in for the moral sail, Georgina as England, and her lover as the hapless political left. Maybe, but I didn’t gape any of that in the film. I spent too powerful time chuckling over the outrageous behavior of Spica and his goons-one played by Tim Roth in an early role, by the way-and enjoying the glorious Helen Mirren. She’s so aesthetic here that your heart aches over the indignities she suffers at the hands of Albert. She’s also not disquieted to do some mettlesome scenes, a lesson she probably learned from her role in the Tinto Brass and Bob Guccione classic “Caligula,” made some ten years before this film. If you collected need to a reason to eye the movie, if the political symbolism and charged situations leave you frigid, check out the gigantic musical gather by Michael Nyman and the sumptuous atmosphere of the restaurant. The colors and décor of the dining establishment grasp your breath away, and Greenaway further uses color by having people’s outfits change hue as they shuffle from room to room. What does it all mean? Who knows, but it’s fun to spy.

The DVD version of the film I saw didn’t have grand in the plot of extras besides a trailer and a widescreen represent transfer. No matter, though. The movie is spellbinding enough to accomplish you forget all about commentaries, stills, and any other of the usual extras. After watching “The Cook, the Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover,” I would like to behold other Peter Greenaway films. Unfortunately, most of them have not received a reissue on DVD. If the subject matter is as disturbing as this film, no wonder! I recommend renting this movie and then spicy some friends over to spy it. Don’t content them anything about it beforehand, though. Unprejudiced sit help and observe the jaws fall.

I don’t come by it. Leprechaun 2 is available on DVD, and this isn’t.

I remember when this was released, it had impartial gotten a very determined review in the NY Times, and the theater was packed. Well, by the ruin of the film, there were plenty of empty seats. I’ve never seen so many people go out on a movie, or in such a genuine trot. It was as though the people who found it distasteful had very different levels of tolerance, or perhaps that the film offered an unusually colossal selection of potentially offensive subjects. There were actually people who walked out during the last 10 minutes. Serene, there were plenty of viewers who were transfixed by this lovely film, including me. In fact, I had to go watch it again the very next day. I can’t remember being quite so affected by any movie.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover! Click Here

Helen Mirren and Michael Gambon are both very qualified here, but what really sets this film apart are the beautiful, painterly compositions and the lush cinematography (by Sacha Vierny) . The brutal violence, the dialogue, the characters and region all back as a background to the film’s ravishing visual spectacle. This inversion is somewhat typical of Peter Greenaway’s films in general, but this is perhaps his masterpiece. In short, I can’t imagine a more essential addition to the DVD canon.

They may be too primitive to enjoy for their entertainment value alone, but these 13 silent, black-and-white cartoons from the 1920s have a ton of historic value. They’re what remains of the 26 shorts Walt Disney did just before Mickey Mouse, during 1927 and 1928. The animation team included a trio of future stars — Ub Iwerks, who would go on to draw Mickey, Friz Freleng, who later drew many Bugs Bunny cartoons, and Rudy Ising, who went on to run Warner Brothers’ Merrie Melodies unit.

Though he got off to a rocky start, Oswald was plenty popular. With the same engaging, spunky personality as his rodent successor, the Lucky Rabbit even had his own merchandise — a chocolate-covered marshmallow Oswald candy bar, a stencil set and a pin-backed button. In 1928 Disney lost the rights to the rabbit to the shady distributor for Universal, replacing him with the very similar looking mouse we know and love today. Disney regained them in 2006, in exchange for allowing then-ABC television sportscaster Al Michaels to go to work for Universal’s network, NBC.

The cartoons have new, orchestral soundtracks by Robert Israel, who earlier created the scores for The Harold Lloyd Comedy Collection Vols. 1-3.

What makes the set terrific, however, are two unexpected additions. First, most of the shorts come with audio commentary, which really makes them interesting. Second, Disc 2 is a Academy Award quality (really!) documentary about Iwerks, called “The Hand Behind the Mouse,” that was produced by his granddaughter, Leslie. Since it wasn’t created by the Disney company, it’s an honest, balanced, warts-and-all portrayal. In fact, it’s the best inside look at the history of company ever. Kelsey Grammar narrates.

Collectors will note that this Treasures set comes in a gold tin, not silver. Also included is a little lithograph that’s a sampling of some Oswald sketches, and a cute little Oswald button.

By the way, some of the post-Disney Oswalds are also now available on DVD. After Disney lost the rights to the character, Universal assigned the Lucky Rabbit to animator Walter Lantz, of Woody Woodpecker fame. The new Woody compilation, The Woody Woodpecker and Friends Classic Cartoon Collection, includes a handful of Lantz’s Oswald shorts.

While not classic Disney animation, these cartoons are far ahead of the other cartoons produced at the same time. This is one of the most historic Disney DVD releases ever. The loss of Oswald was the thorn in Walt’s foot. This drove Walt to change his business practices. Sadly less than half of the Walt Disney produced Oswald Rabbit cartoons survive today.

DISC #2

Alice Comedies:

1) Alice Gets Stung (new to DVD)

Sound Disney Cartoon re-issues:

1) Plane Crazy (Mickey Mouse)

2) Steamboat Willie (Mickey Mouse)

3) Skeleton Dance (Silly Symphony)

The Hand Behind The Mouse: The Ub Iwerks Story.

The Oswald cartoons will seem quite primitive to those used to the classic color Mickey & Donald Cartoons. Even the B&W Mickey Mouse cartoons will seem more refined. These might bore some children, but the Disney Treasures are for the real animation buffs and I would highly recomend this to any Disney fan!

Jonathan Kaplan (The Accused) directed this creepy thriller about an outwardly friendly cop (Ray Liotta) who attaches himself to a married couple (Kurt Russell, Madeleine Stowe) whom he helps during a crisis. In short order, he’s revealed to be a psychopath who wants Russell’s wife, but the film is about more than Liotta’s mental state. A bold script and Kaplan’s astute direction peel away the layers of masculine identity in the male leads and underscore the painful conflicts good men feel when faced with classic territorial challenges. This is not as profound as Straw Dogs, but it is honest and provocative, until mayhem overcomes the final act. –Tom Keogh

The broadcast series Scrapped Princess (2003) gives new meaning to the term “anti-hero.” Pacifica Cassul was born under a baleful star: according to the prophecy she’s the poison that will cause the end of the world on her 16th birthday. As the fatal day approaches, she’s on the lam with her older brother and sister, Shannon and Raqul. They’re charged with protecting her from worshippers of the god Mauser, who believe in the prophecy. Pacifica isn’t the most likable character: she fusses and whines and sticks her siblings with all the work. The filmmakers try to balance her petulance with mawkish scenes of doubt and self-pity. The villains multiply in Ichiro Sakaki’s story until it’s not clear just who’s out to get Pacifica. Despite its shortcomings, Scrapped Princess scored a big hit in Japan and may well prove popular in America. (Rated 13 and older: violence, brief nudity) –Charles Solomon
